lets not call prince crap, madonna has been bad since around 1994 and bon jovi has been bad since 1993

If this is the album, it means that the entire album leaked about a year ago. I thought it was o.k., but I did find it very dated, 90's kind of American hardrock with a bit of a industrial edge. It sounded very pompous, very much like 80's Alice Cooper, or 90's Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock.

Hope Axl will buy a good WIG instead of the ropes of plastic he's wearing now.
Or borrow that plastic bucket of his former guitarist. Maybe DE VULLUSBAND will be allowed to shit in it first. That would be great!

**********

I have been a GN'R maniac since I listened to "Appetite for Destruction" for the first time. I never thought I would find a GN'R discussion (actually an Axl discussion, because this is not GNR, it is Axl's band) here that was not directly linked to the 1989 performance of Salt of the Earth or to the many Stones covers that GNR did in their 1986-1993 existence.

I think most people (excluding those that can't take Axl's voice) will agree that "Appetite for Destruction" is somewhere between a very enjoyable rock n' roll album and the best rock n' roll record of the last 20 years. And if you ever listened to Appetite and GN'R Lies or to any bootleg from 86 to 91 you would also agree that Guns n' Roses was a great rock band - a real blues-based rock n' roll band in the best Stones-Aerosmith-AC/DC-LedZep tradition, with some punk/metal elements added in the mixture.

Guns n' Roses had three good songwriters (Axl, Slash, Duff) and one genius songwriter, Izzy Stradlin. Izzy wrote or co-wrote some of the best GNR tunes and when he left GNR (in 1991) the band was gone. The proof is that GNR never released an original song again after Izzy left. Axl, Slash and Duff managed to tour for two more years and released a cover album but never managed to release anything original after Izzy left.

This - the fact that Izzy was a key member in Guns n' Roses - is something most people don't know/realise. GN'R without Izzy is like the Stones without Keith. Most people think that Axl-Slash would be the key elements in the GN'R sound, but it is not true. One other thing that lots of people don't know is that Izzy is a Rolling Stones maniac and that he was very very influenced by the Stones.

The influences are everywhere from the chords of the songs ("I Used to Love Her" chords are identical to "Dead Flowers") to the names of the songs (GN'R's Pretty Tied Up and Stones' Pretty Beat Up is just a small example). This year, Izzy rejoined Axl onstage several times in the US and in Europe, where they played many times Stones' "You Gotta Move" and also one time "Sway". Unfortunatelly, there is no good recordings of these songs available - only crap audience recordings.

Anyway, I guess the purpose of me writing this post here is to let you guys know how good - and STONESY - Izzy records are. Many people also don't know this, but Izzy has released SIX albums since he left GNR:

"Izzy Stradlin and the Juju Hounds" (the most Stonesy one)
"117º"
"River"
"Ride On"
"On Down the Road"
"Like a Dog"

I recommend these albuns to anyone, specially to Stones fans, and more specially to Keith's fans. You guys are gonna love the sound of these records even if you can't stand GN'R.

Yeah I agree that Appetite For Destruction is a very good album. I also like Izzy a lot. I LOVE the song on Use Your Illusion that he sings. 14 Years. Kick ass song. He sounds a little like Keith. But I can't see anybody taking them seriously after this last tour. I saw them in Oakland and they did not come on stage until 12:30. That is just ridiculous.

I don't think his album will sell that well. Matter of fact I think it will tank bigtime; one huge sinker.

I agree. Axl was a great singer when he needed to be. He was onstage on time and sung like a mad men. Enter fame and fortune and lots of yes-men around him and he becomes the biggest a**hole on the planet. Now he made a band of yes men, he takes hours to go onstage, he can't sing anymore (his voice is REALLY @#$%& up) and he spends millions of dollars and 13 years to make an album.

In the end, you just gotta write good songs, record them and play them. That is all there is to it. But I don't need to tell you guys that, because everybody here knows the Stones used to drop two albuns a year...

A cool link of Izzy playing Jivin Sister Fanny live in 1992 right after he left GNR:

A great link of GNR back in the LA club days (1986) performing a great cover of Jumping Jack Flash:

The release of this album was so often announced and delayed that it is simply ridiculous. If Axl would be happy with it, he would go along and put it out. Instead he chooses to delay the release for years and years and years which shows me that he does not believe in the material. It does not get any better if you remix or rerecord parts of an album all the time.

I agree with Luciano that Izzy was a (if not the) key ingredient. The only thing I don't like about GNR is Axl's self-important attitude. Why doesn't he cover "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey" (his real name)? winking smiley

BTW, I met Izzy at a Ronnie Wood show - helluva nice guy, too.

No we (keefstheman & DE VULLUSBAND) have been shitting in the bucket of Axl's former guitarplayer and then put it on Axl's head upside down.
Axl=Mr. Brownstone now.

I ALMOST feel sorry for Axl Rose.
Almost.
He's from Indiana and had a dysfunctional upbringing and suffers mental problems. I'm the same, just a little worse, because I'm from Kentucky. I know all about damaged childhood, emoltional difficulties and now everyday being on enough meds to stun a horse. I also know this: having such problems does not give a person license to be a jerk, to hurt people, to throw childish fits and walk out on shows that wind up costing millions of dollars in damage, and all the other bad things he's done. There's a difference between living with dysunctions and being a bad person. Axl Rose, from what I can gather - having never met him, but read and seen plenty - is a bad person.

And for years he has been in Hell. A Hell of his own making. He's not dumb. He knows what the release of "Chinese Democracy" means. It means the end of the line.

So long as that record isn't out yet, he's still Axl Rose of Guns & Roses. He knows that when that record comes out, the other shoe drops and he's done.

Oh, sure, there'll be promotion, and a tour. And it'll be great fun speculating how long it lasts before he screws it up somehow. But the record, after the initial curiosity-driven sales subside, will drop like a rock, because it is not Guns & Roses, and it WILL suck. The original quintet was a great band, and you don't just put people together and have a great band. It's a miracle when it happens. Axl had it and drove every member of that band away. He is utterly alone, deserves to be, and he knows, he KNOWS, that the release of that album is the first drug to be administered in the lethal injection of Axl Rose, Guns & Roses, all the money, all the fame, and all he ever wanted. That drug will induce unconsciousness. The second drug (the sales figures that will not come close to re-couping expenses) will induce paralysis. And then the third drug, the one that stops the heart, will come when the record's dead and the tour's over and he goes home, alone, with no more future than David Lee Roth.

No record company will touch Axle Rose after this. No powerful management agency such as he's accustomed to will touch him. The record company money that's been keeping this band paid will come to an end and then they'll be gone. And then his heart, his career's heart, will stop. It will all be over.

Axl knows this. So long as that record remains unreleased, he has an identity and a group. With the release, all the air will start escaping from the balloon until it's all gone. He knows this and I'll bet he sleeps fitfully because of it.

And may I add my personal opinion that it can't come too soon. I don't personally feel Axl is anywhere near as talented as some people think he is. His voice is a parody of a voice, not a real voice, he overdoes every last scream, every last inflection. Where one heartfelt "aaaiyyeeeYeah!" will do, he always has done five. He has never written a lyric that has inspired anyone in the world to compassion or goodwill. He has disrespected audiences the world over time and again. He's a dead man walking. And the sooner he flatlines, the more air there will be for better, decent human beings to breathe.

Tommy
