Prince is cool. Yes, he's weird, but the man is a great performer.

The last song on 3121 features Maceo Parker on sax. That song ("Get On The Boat")alone is worth the price of the album!

We all have the right to critique an artists performance. But I would feel lucky to at least be at the concert. Maybe I'm wrong!

exactly, to each his own. I found him real boring.

Prince is absolutely one of the greatest musicians of all time;
only the Stones performing on the same day could hold me from
going to his' check out the boots from aftershows,,,fabulous!

Re: prince

Prince is incredible, and I realized that for the first time at the Coliseum in L.A. in 1981, when he opened for the Stones and the audience reacted in hostility. Kudos to the Stones for allowing him on the bill, though. Greater kudos to Prince for challenging the audience's expectations of a stadium rock show.

Some of Prince's output has been uneven over the years, but most is high-quality. He puts on an amazing show.

He lives in Toronto now, going door-to-door for Jahova in Rosedale.

Isn't that the show where he came out in nothing but silk underwear? Got to give him credit for big yobboes in front of a Stones crowd.

I've never seen him in person, but televised shows have impressed me much. The heir apparent to the great JB.

At risk of hijacking the thread...whatever happened to his one-time contemporary, Terence Trent D'Arby (TTD)?

not much i can add..most important artist of the 80s arguably.

lost the threadin the 90s.. i kept buying his crap albums and then gave up..

still would like to see him live..

Definitely a fan of the purple man! His guitar-work is incredible and for a "gay" man he's sure had his share of smokin' hot women!!

Gazza, I caught that You Tube clip-thanks for pointing it out. He's an amazing musician for sure.

I saw him in 85 or 86 Purple Rain Tour-incredible indeed.

Well, Prince ... I like some of his stuff, but I don't know much of it. Still, I've listened into quite a few of his records in the store (or in this case, in various stores over the years if anyone cares ;-) but they always tended to have too much funk music on them for my taste. Songs of his that I remember (fondly) are (in no particular order):

-Money Don't Matter 2 Night
-Diamonds And Pearls
-The Most Beautiful Girl In the World
-Dolphin
-Dinner With Deloris
-Kiss (but I prefer the Art Of Noise version with Tom Jones)
-and who doesn't know Purple Rain?

During the last few years, he's put out so many multiple disc albums that I lost count.

Well terence = Sananda Matraya nowadays, seen the light somewhere, still a great artist but out of the spotlights.
i always regret the fact that he and Prince never did something togethet although P. covered Wishing Well in one of his aftershows though, showing respect.

Excellent talent.

Saw him a year or two ago at the Meadowlands. Generous bandleader: his other players also had their time in the spotlight, though it was always clear who the real star was.

He did a set just himself alone with a guitar... I am not kidding that the arena rocked as much as it did with his great, tight band.

Thanks shedooby. Saw a TTD performance from early/mid 80s, and he was fantastic. Didn't know about his conversion.

Yes, KSIE, silk underwear was Prince's stage attire for that Coliseum slot opening for the Stones, except that it was a more elaborate garment than the kind of underpants you see in the men's section of your Sears Roebuck catalog. Prince's set included . . . censors, get ready . . . "Jack U Off," a track from the Controversy album. The visual and aural stimulation was more than most L.A. Stones fans could handle.

Yes. Although I think his last three albums have been mediocre to plain f-ing awful, often in the same song.

As important for rock music's musical development as Lulu or Mouth & McNeal.

He's booked to play every weekend until April in Vegas, so don't expect anything too soon.

The "Slave" thing was an obtuse comment on the fact that WB owned his masters not him - hence his "enSLAVEment", you see. And why he called his first post-WB album "Emancipation".

Trouble is, post-WB he's made exactly three great albums (The Truth, Xpectation and The Rainbow Children), a bunch of bad ones (the last three and Rave), and released some absolutely great stuff online, which only a minority got to hear. Oh, and as a consequence of his ongoing enmity towards WB, his back catalogue hasn't been upgraded.

And then there are the wars he wages against his fans ...

But he is - in my opinion - a genius.

Best show I ever saw was Prince at the Kodak theater in Hollywood 2002. It was a monster. Prince is so good that he could be hot with a borrowed band. Prince's show at the House of Blues after the Grammys in 2004 wasn't bad either. The guy is a genius, that is why he is weird. Acutally I don't think he is weird, just short.

First show for me was on "Sign 'O' Times" tour, 1987, I guess. I never forget this show in my life. Saw him many times since then.

once he had a 50'000 stadium show here. I am not sure now, but I think it was the Nude Tour. People were confused. Instead of only playing warhorses he and the band did a near to half an hour jam session. It was amazing. But I know now why our boys play more warehorses. It's not possible in stadiums in front of "parttime fans". But Prince did not care. Cooooolll

I like a few of his songs- but I'm not much of a fan. Who cares if the guy is gay. How is that relevant to his ability as an entertainer? Just because he has an eccentric personality, does not mean he's gay.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four
