What are some of your best excuses for calling in sick. Have you ever been caught or seen at a show, shopping, sports event by someone at work?

Yeah, everybody has. Why waste a sick day by really being sick?

Never been caught myself, but know a guy who was out on disability and the company hired a private eye to tail him. He was videotaped playing golf with his "bad back". Lost his disability but, luckily, not his job. Had to go back to work though.

Of course. But I have been sick almost a month (mostly due to burning the candles at both ends for a few weeks and drinking heavily to numb the symptoms), and still haven't called in sick. Don't think I have in about 3 years.

Elmo, how could this guy haven't lost his job? It sounds like a pretty good reason to fire someone to me.

I haven't called in sick when i wasn't but i'm only working for half a year now so who knows :-)

......no, but I once had an employee call in high on acid. I told her to get out and enjoy the sunshine, be safe, and come back to work when she comes down.

Once, April 1990 if I recall it right.
Mid-April, beautiful sunny day, a perfect day for winter fishing.
Didnt get a single fish, but a nice tan.

When I worked there I got shit from my workmates for NOT calling in sick once a month, because it was making them look bad !!

I think it was called "throwing a bluey" and is kind of a national sport. Also drinking brandy at lunchtime on Friday was rather popular in Australia

going to work while feeling awful.

I love calling in sick! I don't have any good excuses though, just usually use stomach pains or the ol sick kid routine.

Called a fake sick day once because I was still in the south of France and pretended to my employer (in Paris) that I got a sunstroke over the week-end. Not sure he believed it, but I got my extra day.

Never done it...not once.
I guess it's a symptom of some misguided work ethic passed on from my parents...who both worked themselves to death !

Years ago I got sort of "busted" for faking calling in sick to work, from a pay phone in Penn Station in New York City -- the train intercom suddenly started squawking track announcements and departures in the background while I was calling in to the office, pretending to be at home sick...nobody ever said anything about it later but it was pretty darn ridiculous...

I was once asked by my colleagues in a new section when I wanted to take my sick leave so they could work around it. They all just added it to the annual leave allocation. Sounded good to me.

When I was kid 16 or so . I called in sick once and my boss spotted me checking out records in a department store . He never said a word but always gave me a nasty look

I do contract work now - no sick days. If I call in, no moolah for me! Which is ironic, since my last job I was entitled to 6 a year. I took 5 in eleven years.
