I'm not sure, what's the cost of a peanut butter and banana sandwich these days?
Whatever it is, multiple it by 500.

He might be opening for Celine Dion. A 300 pound rocker and a 45 pound popcreature, what a combination.

he would have been playing vegas like he always did, no new songs either, something like a fat chuck berry

He would paint his face black and pretend to be one of St. Nicholas helpers.

I can't understand why Elvis gets knocked so much. I'm not even a huge Elvis fan but the guy was a legend. He didn't write his own songs so you can argue that the Beatles and Stones were better but he's still better than most of the major artists by a mile. What good does it do to write your own songs if they are frigging crap like some of the crap out there today.

If Elvis were still alive, he'd look just like Elton John.

Gettin kindo tired ot the What If...-threads.
But this had a witty angle.

Elvis would be like Rod Stewart.

he actually did more touring in the 70's than the Stones did

I'm not sure why people have so little faith in Elvis. Perhaps, big fans of him have more of an optimistic view on what he'd be like if he were alive today. I would like to believe that sometime between '77 and '06 he would've cleaned up, loss the weight, lose the Colonel and eventually found his own style that would fit snug in today's music.

He definitely would have finally gone on his first world tour and it would have rejuvenated him beyond belief. He prolly would've made a couple clunker albums in the 80's...get back on track in the 90's and eventually put out an album (with duet albums here and there) every other year that would mirror the quality that of today's Neil Diamond or maybe Johnny Cash's last few.

Elvis' voice was only getting better by the time he died in '77--his vocal range was now as a deep as a canyon and as high as the sky. I can only imagine how sweet and strong his voice would have been in the following decades.

I think it's safe to say, that if he WERE still around---he wouldn't touch Vegas with a 10 foot pole. He's been there---totally done that. He'd probably play Vegas as often as the Stones do...one stop per tour.

Oh, Elvis...why'd you have to go....

....Or he may have pullin'imself togever
& be doin some workin out & make comeback after comeback
and puttin more and more social pathos in his lyrics
and endin up somewhere in the Johnny Cash-/Springsteen-land.
With A King's background... We will never know would we?

Honestly, and I'm a huge Elvis fan, I always suspected that he'd have continued with the plastic surgery route (he had a face lift late 76) and wallowed in Vegas a sad shadow of his once magnificent self. He was an emotional wreck/manic depressive in the final years.

It would have taken an enormous amount to have dumped the Colonel/Memphis Mafia who carried on for years after Elvis' death. He'd already sold his back catalogue in 73 so as his albums sold poorly the main way of recouping a dollar was the touring circus.

In a dream world he'd of hit rehab seriously, dumped the Mafia, cleared out the colonel, taken a long break and made the comebacks of all combacks in the 90's with an album with all the intent of the American recordings my Johnny Cash. sadly we'll never know and a few must have serious regrets.....

Thanks Gazza! I've always noticed your huge knowledge of Elvis on this board and on Rocks Off and it's great to know that you're an Elvis fan too! You go to any of the Elvis messageboards?

He would have lost weight, got plastic surgery and implants, started working out like Mick, and would look like 1956!

LOL..No, I reckon I'd be too afraid of most of the inmates!

The Stones' ones are scary enough as it is!

But yes, I've been an Elvis fan even longer than I've been a Stones fan, although not to the same extreme smiling smiley

I dont get where people - even Elvis fans - get this 'myth' from that the only place he played in his later years was Las Vegas. The man toured incessantly (always in America, unfortunately - God knows how big an event it would have been had he ventured outside North America) and in the last 18 months of his life, only had one two-week season in Vegas.

That in itself is surely a sign that had he lived, he would have concentrated more on playing other places than the Hilton

Good point. It's weird ainnit how people assume that from 69-77 he only played Vegas?

Whenever I see people get upset by Stones' set lists...I always like to look back to Elvis' shows and then it makes me feel better! Nothing like a good 99% of an Elvis set list to be repeated night after night...

He lives in Tweed, Ontario.

maybe, but I do find that there was a reasonable amount of diversity from one tour to the next, that he kept playing songs new to the audience and did a reasonable smattering of what could be described (had the term existed back then) of 'non warhorses'

Ok, so not Vegas but he was certainly on the tour circuit treadmill. Just listen to a few of the boots from that era! And the live set had very few changes to it really.

In 1989 Entertainment Tonight (USA-TV) did a segment....what Elvis would be singing if he were alive today. They had an Elvis impersonator in a recording studio doing MIXED EMOTIONS (as well as other '80s songs). It was kinda funny...and not that bad. Sorta sounded like SUSPICIOUS MINDS. I wonder if that's on U Tube.

Seriously...if Elvis were still alive he'd have been the first to hook up with Rick Rubin...before Neil DIamond & Johnny Cash. You can't keep a great voice down.
