I used my vote for Bowie and tried to rally support, to no avail. However I now think the only choice is Morrissey.

The only choice is to choose none of them. McCartney doesn't quite make that title and even if he did, I wouldn't vote for him on principle! Morrissey might be an icon but not the "biggest living" one. I admire David Attenborough and his work (I have always envied him his job) but he's not what I'd call an icon. I'd go for someone like Nelson Mandela - after Keith, of course :-)

of the 3 remaining choices, i'd go for Sir David.

his contribution, to our understanding of the environment and wildlife is immense and is of far more importance, than the composition of pop songs.

If non-UK folks are allowed, I'd say Chuck Berry.
Otherwise its chaps Richards-Watts-Jagger-Wyman-Taylor-Wood.
ALO. Lydon. Jon Lord. Clapton. Burdon.
Cleese. And Old Winston Churchill will live forever in my heart.

A couple more from movie world: Mr Connery, Mr Moore.
