Probably nodding off from smack; hadn't done his first line yet....Kind of a sad picture - makes you think what a powerful grip drugs had on him at the time.

Keith was unconscious (asleep or passed out, whichever suits your imagination)
and the shot was set up for the amusement of others in the room.

Fav Keith pic ever? That's kinda the worst

I dont care for the motives behind the photo - you can tell they had fun at his expense.

Hell, I've taken a few Vicodin that have knocked me on my ass to the verge of nodding off, so I can't imagine what heroin does to you.

I look at that pic of Keith 1975 in bed and am hyper aware that whole mirror's about to slide off *poof* and how awful his color is :-(

Again, HTF: The photo was staged. Set up, by people in the room who thought it would be funny.
They didn't set huge piles of anything of value teetering precariously on Keith's lap,
because they didn't own huge piles of anything of value, and if they had they wouldn't have risked it.

One sure wishes Annie Leibowitz had had more class than to take and then publish that photo,
but she didn't.

Maybe it was staged / Maybe it wasn't...We'll probably never know. I'm just saying that knowing the Stones habits at the time, I have no trouble believing that it was real blow. They certainly had the money to risk losing a pile of blow like that. Or it could've been staged. Either scenario is plausible.

She smiled sweetly: You may never know, HTF, but since the photographer has stated that it was staged,
plenty of people feel like we do know.
