not especially revolutionary "rating", is it -
how many people participated in this?

I'm assuming these results came from a thread titled "Rate Stones Albums 1978-2005" or something and everyone put their own score of each album during that time frame.

I'd assume that too, since it's bobby lee who posted this, and those threads.

micwer, why does the first comment need to be sardonic? Kudos to bobby for taking the time. I'd consider it a pretty good conclusion, everyone sees them differently, but I'm glad DW is at the BOTTOM!

these results are indeed taken from those threads.

the top 50 posts for each album.

wont be exactly accurate but surveys never are.

50 people participated in it? i'm just trying to grasp what it represents.

woudnt be the same 50 people for each album.

i took the first 50 posts for each album, except where there wasnt 50 replies.

then i totalled up and averaged it out.

Are you guys really buying this? Gee...

for one of the threads there was more than 100 replies.

for others it was over 30,.

what i could have done was let these threads develop over time till they got into the 1000,s and then done the survey.

dont think it would have made that much difference.

what i have noticed with these surveys over the years, is that the latest album always scores quite high, but years later will have slipped away.

happened for steel wheels.

metamorphosis isn't rated? it was released, right?

>> not me <<

nor me - but it's better than the thread rating how the women attending someone's funeral look.
anyway if a survey's supposed to mean something to somebody it gots to clarify how many people were polled:
"reflecting the opinions of 8 to 50 denizens of iorr" or something like that.

Re: rolling stones albums from best to worst.

when i done the poll, for each album, i added on the rating, then averaged it, then added on another rating, then averaged it, and so on, but after about 20 ratings, the average dosent change very much at all, it settles on a number and sticks with it, even to 2 decimal points and dosent really deviate from it much.

so therefore i dont think using 50 people in the survey would make much difference than if you used millions.

smile: nothing like rigorousness to make a survey "definitive"!

It looks pretty good to me. Except ABB is way too high. I guess I'm one of teh few here taht consistently fesses-up that I don't like ABB. I'm sorry, but to put ABB right up there with The Stones six best albums, only shows just how BADLY we want it to be great.

10 or 20 years from now it will be where it belongs- in the bottom 1/3rd.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four
