who during a conversation about music mentions that they like the rolling stones, and you say, me too im right into them and have been for years, and they say i like all thier 60,s stuff when it turns out they can only name about 3 songs of the stones and were completely unaware that the stones existed beyond 1971.
or the fan who says he loved the rolling stones, but then said he prefered the bachelors or beatles better.
What exactly is a fan? Isn't a fan someone who like whatever they are a fan of? So, if they like at least some of the Rolling Stones than wouldn't that make them a fan? True that they wouldn't be as strong of a fan as people on here, but they are still fans in a way. IMO

I've been proud about my love of the Stones for the past 25+ years. Although I enjoy many other bands, I have always claimed the Stones as my favorite. I still don't wear any paraphernalia with tongue logos on it unless I'm at a show.
I have found that most people who wear clothes with tongue logos or claim to be fans really are not more than casual fans at best. Of all the people I know who do like the Stones, they all claim other bands as their favorite.
ahh: do i sense a definitive definition of "real Stones fan" lurking just under the surface? (in fact i know lots of people who love the Stones even though they aren't particularly focussed on them, and it doesn't bother me any. it sure beats not loving them.)

Wrong! I'm a Stones fan for 24 years and proudly wear my Tongue shirts regularly. It's like wearing a shirt of your favorite sports team. Never met a Stones fan on this board.
Actually branching out from what you are speaking about...I meet a lot of people who says they're a fan of whoever but only know 1 or 2 of their songs. Just because you can name one band's song---doesn't mean you're a fan.
I've noticed that people like to boast about their musical tastes--usually about how eccentric and wide range they are when in fact they really are only "big fans" of 1 or 2 of the 50 bands/artists they love to list.

Theres loads of these people. I always find these 'blind dates' to be quite a disappointment..."you should meet my mate/brother/dad/son/sister - he/she's a huge Stones fan as well". Then when you meet them and ask if they were at any shows on the recent tour, they look at you in amazement and say "what - they did a tour?", or even worse "theyre still going?"
> ive met very few real stones fans.
ah ya should have registered here a few months earlier!

ya, i'm a stones fan...and i wear my tongue t-shirt around. ive been to only 1 of their concerts and have been listening to them for only about 5 years. it isn't my fault that i was born in the worn generation!!! i am a TRUE stones fan even at the age of 19.
