Oh, you mean stealing ;-)

For those who can't tell, I'm joking - - not in the least bit interested in getting into that discussion!

One great thing about all the Stones boards on the net...IORR, Stonesdoug, RocksOff and It's A Gas, Gas, Gas are all very comfortable and relaxed for whatever fan you are...casual fan to hardcore-Superfan.

I noticed this because I like to visit an Elvis board and because it's the ONLY Elvis board on the net...it's the worst place to go as a fan. the board is so cold and full of egotistical-online bullies. Casual fans would be verbally kicked off because there'd be no use of them on there. The majority of posters there are Elvis "Historians" that love to be challeneged to every detail and fact of Elvis' life to when he recorded this song, what city a song was sung to how many times a day Elvis wiped his ass.

I'm thankful that there is a great Stones community on the Internet.

>> what are trees? <<

a tree is when someone has a disk they want to share, and a bunch of people who don't have copying capability would love to have it.
the person with the disk is the seed. the people without copying capability are leaves. and in between are branches,
who are people who would both like to have the disk and are willing to make copies of it for other folks.
there's also an administrator, who announces the tree; the next step is a sign-up period when interested parties sign up as branches or leaves.
then the administrator closes the tree, assigns up to five leaves to each branch and lets everyone know how it's all arranged.
the seed then trades with the branches; once they have their copies, the branches trade with their assigned leaves
(usually accepting like 3 blank disks as a trade, since leaves usually don't have copying capability).
so the disk ends up being distributed to dozens of people, but no one involved has to make more than a few copies.
it's a good system, when it's done right. i've gotten tons of great stuff through shidoobee trees.

ahem: for the record: shidoobee trees never involve official releases. nor do they ever involve mp3s.

download sharing is great for people who have the capacity to then burn the music to cds or otherwise store it.
trees are better for the rest of us. and i personally like the idea of trading rather than getting too used to just having it all delivered
at the push of a button without even needing to say thanks to anyone.

I've lurked some @ Shidoobee, Keno's too.
Seem like pretty nice groups of fans, knowledgeable, etc.
But here @ IORR is where they share the music.
I've not had much luck getting bootleg cd's & lp's so I really appreciate the time, effort and generosity of all those who've posted just amazing stuff.

That sounds nice and fair.

Now... not to be pesty here, but for my own curiosity, ARE there any othere sites to grab stuff from?

Re: IORR / Shidoobee

there are some terrific blogs, chocoreve, gambrinus, culpa, nongseynyo, xxxrockrula, blog stoned, that have a lot of good stuff. Some legit and official, some bootleg.

Re: IORR / Shidoobee

A few things -

Doug and the Shidoobbeans are great (thanks for the parties and the beer coozie)- many cross-pollinate here, there, Rocks Off, Vikings, and other places.

I don't consider trading boots stealing. Officially released stuff is a different story. Most of us have bought the official stuff several times over anyway - album, 8-track, cassette, CD, etc. They're not gonna release a fan recorded version of each show, so the boots are cool with me and (I suspect) the band.

Re: Justin's post about the Elvis site. We're lucky to have several different sites. For example, I've been visiting some Bob Seger sites lately getting ready for his show. At least 80% of the people there are casual fans with very little knowledge of his long career. Enjoy and appreciate what we've got.

You won't see official albums or dvd's being offered in the trees. Only the bootleg.

I have more CD's and DVD's then I know what to do with. I stopped downloading cd's, because enough is enough and I don't listen to all of them, DVD's I tend to watch all of them at some point.

>> I mail you a CD or DVD, you copy it and pass it on to the next person <<

actually that sounds what's known as a vine.
that also works, but it's a slower way to distribute a disk than a tree is.

Yeah that's what attracted me to this site too. Not too many wacky goofy pictures and other junk. Just the cool stuff Rockman puts up.

There he is the next mayor of Buffalo. I got ya on the ballot. How goes it brother? You been keeping all these fine international citizens in line? It was 67 degrees out here today! Tied a record. I even raked some leaves while my daughter played outside. Forecast calls for a high of 32 on Saturday back to reality. How's things by you? Its party time man!!!
