I don't understand how they get live albums so wrong, with the exception Ya-Ya's and Stripped. It can't be that hard, for goodness sake! If they ask I'd be willing to sit down with them and compile a killer live album for you guys.

I'm for it but,it would have to include Rambler and She's So Cold as well.I'm Free was on Stripped so,maybe another rare live song instead of that one. There are quite a few possibilities with the Richards lead vocals : Learning The Game;Infamy or Connection,This Place Is Empty,Little T&A,The Worst, and You Got The Silver could be considered.

Had they done some re-arranging of the war-horses since '89, I wouldn't mind them. As long as they get some good ol' voice over-dubs a la SFM on Live Licks! (Can you hear the sarcasm)

I wish they would do a 2 disc set....a full show on the first CD...and the other CD should include rarities from the ABB tour (Aint Too Proud To Beg, She Was Hot, ADTL, ...)

Considering the sound at the shows were unbelievable--they never sounded better. Charlie bangs away like he's dropping bombs on the stadium and Keith and Ronnie's chops are in your face. This tour demands a beautiful live set to capsualize this tour.

I still think that the Scorsese soundtrack and DVD is going to be THE ONLY release from this tour, and I think that for most fans here, it's going to be a huge disappointment. The first question I ask is, who is financing the project? Cohl and Hollywood financier Steve Bing. Bing's biggest success in the movie industry so far was an animated children's film starring the voice of Tom Hanks. In other words, this guy is clearly not a guy who is going to risk spending millions of his dollars on a film showing the Stones playing obscure songs and rare nuggets that no one has ever heard of. The emphasis will be on maximizing the return on the investment, mostly by inflating the hype on the coupling of the legendary Scorsese name and the Rolling Stones brand, with millions of dollars on the table. In other words, bring on the war horses and celebrity duets!

Unlike the Dylan "No Direction Home" documentary soundtrack, which was incorporated into his well-established Bootleg Series of ongoing releases of unheard material, a strategy that (unlike the Stones), Dylan has been pursuing for over 20 years since the release of "Biograph" box set, the Stones/Scorsese soundtrack is basically coming to us as a one-off in a vacuum, and it will likely be aimed at the VERY casual Stones fan, occasional concert goer, and the aging baby boomer market generally. I think it will be aimed at casual fans, the people who buy maybe 3 or 4 CDs a year, people who have probably not bought any *new* Stones music since maybe "Miss You" or "Start Me Up" was on the charts. The Stones clearly have no strategy towards their archives, so this release will likely be geared towards a "big hits" market, and the idea that "if you don't own any Stones music in your music collection, you can get the studio stuff on Forty Licks and then buy this live CD, and that's all the Stones you'll ever need to own!" And if the documentary eventually shows up on PBS, as I think it will (Paramount also did the Dylan DVD), then the soundtrack album will likely be used as a premium or tool for PBS fund-raising drives, tie-ins, sponsorships, etc. So in order to enhance its value there, it will definitely not want to be too obscure.

One thing that really strikes me is that, while the vast majority of the Dylan/Scorsese soundtrack album is previously unreleased recordings or versions, they are often live versions of Dylan's most famous or popular and well-known songs. I expect this will carry over to the Stones project as well, and in addition to live warhorses, my guess is we will most likely even see some "padding" of the soundtrack with the same old studio versions of a few well-known hit songs from the '60s '70s and '80s, for times when Jagger listens back and decides that the live Beacon versions don't measure up to the originals. There are lots of warhorse-type post-Abko songs that fall into this category, that have never been compiled on a repackage, and also weren't on 40 Licks, so the original studio versions can be used in the soundtrack -- Ain't Too Proud To Beg, Sway, Monkey Man, Can't You Hear Me Knockin', etc. could all show up, rather than live versions.

Assuming Scorcese has input on the soundtrack (as he did with Dylan's) then no doubt we will also be treated to such Scorsese gems as the studio version of "Shine A Light" or other tracks from Exile, and again the warhorses and hits, heavily leaning towards Scorsese favorites -- Exile, Let It Bleed (I'm guessing the Let It Bleed version of "Monkey Man" probably will be on there, to underscore the "Good Fellas" link), and other albums with a known Scorsese connection. Add to this the fact that things are probably nearing the end of the line with the Stones and Virgin Records (perhaps the real reason why Rarities was done in such a half-baked fashion and Bigger Bang was so under-promoted upon its release) and I don't find myself expecting much from this thing, really. Although the movie itself will probably be pretty good.

I hope if there is studio padding, that they use unreleased stuff instead.

After taking in all good advices above I tried to make a second BIGGER BANG LIVE ALBUM (maybe to release it as a double CD).
After finishing it I think my original tracklisting is the best.
Why: The opening songs are ABB-songs
It works better as a unit
She Was Hot is a better song then She's So Cold
I would buy the first one at once and the second after maybe two weeks
(depending on the artwork)
My second A BIGGER BANG 2005-06 LIVE album is:
1.Start Me UP
2.It's Only Rock 'n Roll
3.It Won't Take Long
4.Ain't Too Proud To Beg
5.Back Of My Hand
6.Shine A Light (maybe with B.Raitt if it's any good/or Loving Cup)
7.Mr. Pitiful
8.Midnight Rambler
9.Get Up Stand Up
10.This Place Is Empty (ABB-song/otherwise You Got The Silver)
11.Connection (or Little T&A)
12.Get Off Of My Cloud
13.She's So Cold
14.Paint It Black
15.You Can't Always Get What You Want
16.Brown Sugar
YES I WOULD BUY THIS SECOND CHOICE ALBUM TWO WEEKS LATER!

If I could choose, I'd vote for a new studio album or even new solo albums by Mick, Keith, Ron and Charlie instead of a new live album. They've done so many live albums already. Don Was needs to finally get Was (Not Was) back into gear with David Was, so he shouldn't be bothered with a new Stones live record. Was (Not Was) had done some warm-up concerts in England last winter, but instead of finishing their own record, Don has produced a couple of other artists again this year. I'm still hoping for a Keith guest vocal appearance on a new Was (Not Was) album, but the signs that there was going to be one, have kind of calmed down again.

Fill me in:

They should take a month off, get into a club, and crank out a whole show of loose jams, obscure covers, and stuff they've never played before, but give the setlist some kind of UNIFIED COOLNESS instead of simply stacking up LP tracks they haven't released live yet.

Get Mick drunk so he'll be funny, too.

What's the big deal about being wrong about a detail?
I'm sure you're not an expert yourself

If nothing else, I have the perfect name for the live album. Live Bang! Perfect. Plus think of the marketing opportunties.
