An odd way to meet Mick Taylor

Last Saturday I was at the Mick Taylor-gig in Ochten, Holland.
We appeared to stay in the same hotel (van der Valk - Tiel) as the Mick Taylor Band and Danny Bryant & his Red Eye Band, we spotted Mick Taylor at diner in the restaurant before the show.

After the show when we arrived by taxi at the hotel again, the following happened:
As I was paying the taxi driver, another car stopped behind the cab.
I noticed the bass player and the drummer of MT's band getting out of this car.
So we had a little chat about the gig.
In the mean time the taxi driver went to the hotel's reception to talk to somebody. After a few moments he returned and he got into his cab again.
To everyone's surprise he appeared to not have seen the car stop behind him.
The next moment he crashed into this car.
Little damage done, fortunately.
Then two other guys came from another car, towards the scene.
They were the keyboard player, Max Middleton and Mick Taylor himself!
We spoke some time and shook hands.
Mick appeared to have heard the name "Taylorites" never before, it was kind of funny for him to hear it.

It was the first time for me shaking the hands of the greatest guitarist.
By the way, the concert was fantastic.

So, have you washed your hand yet? I had the same feeling you describe after meeting Peter Green. To shake the hand of the Green God was to shake the hand of a God himself! I'd love to meet Mick one day just to say thanks for all the great music he has played over the years.

Mick Taylor is acctually a very nice guy. I met him 15 may 2004 on the Amsterdam airport in the taxfree erea, wile i was on my way to Edinburgh to see Alvin Lee live. Irecognised him and asked him some questions wich he willingly awnserd. My girlfriend was standing a few meters away ( she did not want to disterb my talk with mick ) but gentleman as Mick is he stepped forward to my girlfriend to introduce him self by telling his name. He told me that his was on holiday to Vienna ,and asked us were we were going to. I told him "on our way to see Alvin Lee in Scotland". I gave him a Alvin Lee tour list and he invited us for a coofee at the airport bar but we were in a hurry to get to our gate so he signed the back of my voutcerticket and asked me to say hello from him and his girlfrien to Alvin ( Mick was in his band in the beginning of the 80ties). we had a few more minutes chat about Alvin and music be fore we walked each our way........Very nice to meet a relaxed and happy Mick Taylor. I told Alvin this story too in Edenburg and he smiled widely....

He has Wyman's disease - fear of planes. Somebody should tell him cruise ships have fantastic buffets so he'll get on one and come to the U.S. for some shows.

Ohno - Give it a rest, your not funny.

Did anyone ask him if he's planning on coming to the States?

I for one would love to see him perform Time Waits For No One!!!!

Notice how many covers/Stones songs he plays. Is he writing any new material or is it the same old stuff. I thought I heard something about him releasing a new album.

Does Mick Taylor sing on any songs?

Yes, he sings on almost every song (except the instrumentals like CYHMK) and yes, a new album will be released spring 2007.

I too stayed at the same hotel in Tiel (10 km from Ochten) like Mick Taylor and it was indeed great to see him come down for dinner at about 7.30 p.m., just right into the restaurant, he was sitting next table to ours. After the first show he told me he will release a new CD in spring 2007.
Robdeckwitz, he did no CYHMK (?!)
Songs from the 2nd show:
Secret affair
Loosing my faith
You gotta move
Blues in the morning
Twisted sister
Rain at night
A song by Dylan, don't remember the name
Time waits for no one
Redhouse blues
Riding in Milwaukee (not sure if this title is correct)
No expecations

At the first show he also played Muddy Waters You shook me

Great two shows!

JJ,

He's entitled to play those old Stones songs, he co-wrote them!!

But, he needs to modify his setlist (I agree!)

Time to add some of those new songs from his soon to be "NEW" CD!!

Susan, the Dylan song was Blind Willie McTell (with some parts of All along the Watchtower in it) and he did CYHMK for sure.
I discussed this song with MT! You should notice that MT does play only the second part of the song (after Bobby Keys' solo on Fingers).

Susan, Can't You Hear Me Knocking was the song before the encore, the one you call "Riding in Milwaukee".

Mick Taylor has done celebrity autograph shows where he has set up a table and been with the likes of Elvira, Cat Woman, etc and charging $20 a pop to sign your items. I have a photo of him back from 2002 or so doing a show.
