Starting to feel that way moreso because of the trappings - other than the music their concerts aren't that much different than anybody elses (e-mail tickets, dull ass opening acts, ads out the ying-yang, etc.) Whaddayathink?
"Jumped the shark" means moving past their prime into embarassing land. It refers to an episode of Happy Days when Fonzie jumps a shark tank on a motorcycle - in other words when it goes from being cool into not-so-cool land.
After watching THe Who's Live At Lyon dvd, maybe thay jumped the shark after John died, but seeing the Stones in STL last Jan, I so do not believe they have!!
The phrase, "jump the shark," refers to going to an over-the-top, unrealistic place that veers from the path which one has followed for so long, and never returning. Hence, in the Happy Days episode, Fonzie jumps over a shark, thus taking the show to a new low.

what are you talking about, i have already started a 529 account so i can afford the tix to when it is just Mick and Keith sitting on a pair of stool in Canregie Hall about 10 years from now.
Even if you could make a statement that they jumped the shark, and even if it was true, they still are "the greatest rock and roll band in the world"; when I think of 'jump the shark" phrase, I think of has-been shows..Happy Days..etc;
The Rolling Stones need not apply to that list....
The Beacon/AC fiasco was the official point that they jumped the shark becoming more concerned with kissing Clinton and Scorsese's butts than performing for 12,000 people.

Isn't the "Jumping the shark" phrase used to describe a show or act that NEVER gets back on track?...
So I really don't think it ocurred for the stones in the 70s... even with the phallus or one or two mediocre albums.
Because what's important is they stayed on a musical track throughout the decades since... Maybe not matching their earlier greatness, but certainly a few musical peaks... TOURING for sure, plus some really good albums: Black&Blue, Some Girls, TY

They certainly haven't been the same live since they added all the backup singers in '89, but I wouldn't say they've jumped the shark. Altho Jagger has made them cry with some of his cheesy lyrics on the last few studio albums.

Nope. Did you send them to my work? Cause I think the ones you sent before that to my house got lost somehow and aren't going to show up.

how many musicians out there would give their left nut to achieve this kind of "sonic mess"?...........raise your hands
