OT; Best/Worst James Bond
Posted by: FrankM ()

I heard the new James Bond movie "Casino Royale"
is supposed to be very good. Was wondering how people would rank the different James Bonds up to now. Mine would be as follows;

Sean Connery- The best by a mile.
Roger Moore- good but not great.
Pierce Brosnan- witty but too much of a "pretty boy" in my opinion to appeal to male viewers.
Timothy Dalton- an absolute bore- would have been more interesting watching Don Knotts play James Bond.

Lazenby was superb for a first-time actor and "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is damn close to "From Russia With Love" as best alltime Bond film.

Brosnan, he's no Bond in my world...

My favourite has always been Roger Moore, with a strong second Sean Connery.
Pierce Brosnan is three, but I must admit that "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day" are very weak films (though I think it's not Brosnan's fault).
Timothy Dalton was not that bad I think. The Thing about those two films is that they happened to be in the late 80s, when the James Bond concept (Perestrojka!) was not en vogue anymore and some other action heroes like Dr. Jones, Sgt. Riggs/ Murtaugh or Lt. McLane evolved, "Goldeneye" was a reaction to the action blockbuster boom of the late 80s, early 90s, like "Moonraker" was a pity attempt to do something "Star Wars"-like.
The worst Bond for me was Lazenby, I kind of like the film, but for me he was just a guy between two Connery Bonds.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" would be one of the best bond films ..but... with Lazenby ...

Imagine Connery would have been on his place.

Yesterday the new bond had premiere for continental Europe here in Zurich. With presence of Daniel Craig. They asked people afterwards and almost everybody was surprised how good the movie and the new JB are. Especially women... lol He is supposed to be very sexy, has unbelievable blue eyes..

Don't think I've even seen the Bond movie(s) with Lazenby. He must have been short-lived as Bond.

Best: Connery

Do like the music in On Her Majesties Secret Service.

Don't forget the first Bond in Casino Royale: Barry Nelson, or Bob Holness in the radio version.

Interestingly enough, they say that Timothy Dalton was the most authentic to the original character.

I think Keith would make a superb Bond.

Most people aren't aware of that. Thanks for the verification.

I grew up in the 80's, so I'm a Roger Moore man. But I like Connery too!

NEW BOND FLICK IS GREAT

As a fan, I was hugely excited to see the new Bon film last night.

It doesn't disappoint.

They've basically done a "Bind Begins" type film where - though set in the present day - he's just starting out his career and has yet to become the suave and sophisticated secret agent we all know and love.

Daniel Craig - after all the initial misgivings in the press - has come out fighting and is entirely credible in the role.

There are also some nice touches about familiar things in the film but I won't say any more so as not to give away anything!

1. Connery
2. Brosnan
3. Moore
4. Lazenby
5. indifferent to all the rest of the minor players

Haven't seen the recent Casino Royale yet, but read a review saying he's the best yet in the paper. I bet he never named the dog Indiana though.

I think Connery will always be the ultimate, but Brosnan is the Bond of my generation and he was certainly better than Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. I think they got it all wrong with Roger Moore too.
