OT - Guns N Roses cancels show over booze law

If any of you thought the Stones reasons for cancelling shows was questionable or bad, take a look at this:

Guns N Roses cancels show over booze law Fri Nov 10, 12:08 PM ET

LEWISTON, Maine - Guns N' Roses canceled a performance in Portland, Maine this week after being told by state officials that the band could not drink on stage.

Inspectors from the state fire marshal's office gave the band the no-drinking order when they came to look over the pyrotechnics planned for Monday's scheduled concert at the Cumberland County Civic Center, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Public Safety Department.

McCausland said the band had wanted to drink beer, wine and Jagermeister while performing. A couple of hours after being told that would violate state law, Guns N' Roses canceled its concert, he said.

After the cancellation, a band spokesperson blamed fire marshals for "making it impossible for the band to perform their show to the usual high standards that their fans deserve." The press release, however, did not give a specific reason for the pullout.

Band leader Axl Rose issued a statement through the Guns N' Roses Web site apologizing to fans in Maine.

"It was important for us to play there and it is a shame that what should have been a great night for all of us was not possible due to the actions of two people," said Rose, referring to the fire marshals.

"I agree with, and ultimately take responsibility for, the end decision not to jeopardize the safety of the fans, the crews, the bands and myself as a result of the methods of these particularly draconian authorities," Rose's statement said. "We hope to find another way to play for you in the future."

Jeff Austin, supervisor of liquor licensing and inspection for the state Department of Public Safety, said state law prohibits performers from drinking while on stage, and prohibits employees at establishments with liquor licenses from drinking on the job.

"It's been on the books for years," said Austin, adding that he talked to state inspectors Monday afternoon while they were at the civic center to read them the law.

Austin said he's issued citations for three or four administrative violations of the no-drinking law this year.

The Cumberland County Civic Center Web site said refunds for the Guns N' Roses concert would be issued at the point of purchase.

So that's why the Stones have never played in Maine!

Axl is such an @#$%&!!!

ah, they wouldn't let you drink onstage, go pout and cancel the show.

The sooner people stop going to this fool's concert's the better, he deserves
to be playing at some one horse bar in South Dakota!! Maybe they would let him
drink there and punch fans who say: where's Slash???

The fire marshal was a dick, I heard he threatened the band and managment that they would arrest anyone smoking (including the crowd), anyone drinking, etc.

on this one i have to say i agree with axl...

its MAINE that is nuts.. i mean come on! get real.. a rock band can't even have a beer while performing a rock show which nets the state tax receipts..

come on...it's a publicity stunt at the expense of the Portland (Maine) fans. Trying to re-establish themselves as bad boys...gotta come up with something....axl's plastic surgery won't do it. Put the booze in a coke can and get on with the show.

No Kidding, all they care about is controling Alcohol, putting you in jail for 20 years for Marijuana posession, NOT controling GUNS, Homosexual Marriage, banning Abortions (which any one with some brains KNOWS is impossible), Janet Jackson's bare TIT (don't censor it, give me A CLOSE UP !!!), Swearing in rock music, PURITANICAL to the max (and I have to live in this nightmare part time) SAVE ME !!

Time to take AXL ROSE to the Vet (Animal Doctor) and put him to sleep...........

The guy acted like a two year old in my opinion- cancels a show because he can't drink on stage. Boo hoo.

If he can't go two hours without drinking maybe he has some problems that need to be addressed. AA might be a good place to start.

Only a self centered egomaniac would screw a bunch of fans because he can't go two hours without drinking. They are lucky anyone will pay more than two cents to see them in the first place.

I'd rather go see Yanni than those bozos.

Actually 41's home state is CT, not ME.

That's okay Beely. You're not the first one to take a poke at Bush or Clinton in this forum.

Some of these stories can be kind of murky-
and hard to get to the bottom of. I guess there are two sides to every story- maybe I am biased because I never liked that band to begin with.

In stark contrast to Massachussets where you can get loaded out of your mind like a certain Massachussetts politican, Drive your car off a bridge and in effect kill someone- but who's being judgemental.

Yeah, but I don't think that he made it to the oval office, a small distinction I admit.

Well let's be happy he never made it- might have been a disaster.

As for the distinction- there is also a distinction between the crimes. Many people get dui's and do drugs when they are younger (not saying it is right). Not everyone drives their car off a bridge, kills another person and then uses his family's name to get away with it.

Not trying to be political but you kind of fired the first shot.

Yeah I'm sure Laura Bush killed her ex-boyfriend on purpose. You sound like you watch too many movies.

I know- Bush's plan is so inferior to the democrat plan of running from the terrorists with their tales between their legs. Maybe you can even leave some milk and cookies for the terrorists before you run. Fool.

And Teddy isn't disconnected from anything. Last time I checked he still votes on major issues- I guess when he is sober enough to think.

Wow you are quite witty man. Not. You fired the first shot man- I don't come in here looking to be political unlike some other people I won't mention who fill every other post with political jabs. You fired and I responded. If you fire shots expect to be fired back at.

Well the Kennedy incident is certainly more fishy than the Laura Bush incident- you're the only person I've heard harp on that one.

Wow you are so smart man. You can actually spell? You should certainly know how to spell tail since you are the one running with it between your legs.

A civil war didn't happen before because it was a dictatorship- Matlock. You are right- there was no civil war before- just a torturing madman who ruled as dictator over everyone and killed as he pleased. Let me try my spelling again; L-O-S-E-R.

FrankM, I just wanna give you a big shout out cause it's dudes like you that keep the fire lit under my ass that I must move out of the USA for good (already live in Paris part time so am on my way). Even though the Senate and the House are now in less evil hands it's gonna take them more than 1.5 years to clean up the giant mess that was created in the last 6 years (plus they're not 100% of the solution anyway, just a bit better). A man needs to reach for something, keep having goals, and you and your gang so push me to go for the Expate lifestyle so a big thanks dude, and I mean that 100% - BTW, arguing with Beely is pointless, the guy is gonna win everytime, don't you see that?

CAN WE PLEASE STOP CALLING AXL ROSE AND HIS BACK UP BAND "GUNS AND ROSES". Without Slash and at least Duff there ain't no GUNS and ROSES. This is THE AXL ROSE BAND. I can't believe anyone even cares about this clown anymore, hasn't he let you down enough already? How many more years before that great - lol - forever in the works CHINESE DEMOCRACY masterpeice finally comes out? Talk about SLOW !!

That was a schmuck thing to do. No consideration for the fans.

Anyway, the band Queensryche canceled a concert this past Tuesday November 7th in Greensburg, PA (just outside Pittsburgh) 2 minutes before the doors opened. After the full production was loaded in, merch set up and band soundchecked just fine...the singer canceled the show because he felt his voice was not at 100%.

He did not have the balls to tell the promoter himself, he had the agent call. To add insult to injury the singer was walking around singing before he left the building.
