The only "real" Birmingham pics is the ones posted by with Sssoul. If you got some photos odean73, you're welcome to put them up.

What I do not understand is if Jagger got his throat sore at the end of the 1st show how could he have recovered in time for the 2nd?

The Stones only play London and Sheffield in England! Even Manchester in '03 was a one off!

The consumption of things like hot tea with honey and lemon can work very quick miracles on the voice and throat.

I used to work in radio long long ago, and one night I was calling the play by play of a state championship high school basketball game. My throat was extremely sore, and my voice was almost completely failing. Someone brought me tea with lemon and honey, and within 5 minutes my voice was usable, not perfect, but it saved me from having to quit the broadcast.

I listened and it is one of the beast audience show from 73,real stereo and the bass is not all around but well placed at the bottom right.Fantastic remastering I must say, definitely the 1st show,no hint of Jagger's voice failing on All down the line (if somebody has got a recording like that then it is the 2nd show they have!). As for tea and lemon...well I guess it didn't work much since the Stones cancelled Cardiff and Pembroke Castle the following days!

Odeon 73 is one of the best. It's weird. I believe Erik if he believes the silent poster who insits it's the 1st show. because I was totally believing RIFF. Especially since it's all caps winking smiley. But usually when it's been someone's first Stones show you got to believe them.
Q What exactly was the great effect that Monck saw realized by hitting the mirrors with light and then back on stage. What really was better?

Great show! Great tour! Luvely pics!

My bet is that it IS the first show, as we have two (and maybe three) different tapes from this show, by different tapers, and both (or all three) claim it is the first show.

Wasn't it just making an intensely bright stage ie, doubling the light by reflecting it back. I recall it being mentioned in the '70s book by Robert Greenfield?

It's been said that the whole idea wasn't too bright (pun intended) after all, but unlike what you just said, I thought the problem, at least in '72, was a too dark stage, not a bright one.

You can see the effect at some pics appearing on the fantastic Harold Colson's website, "stoneslib" (hats off to Harold, BTW). Here's one from Nashville 72:

I think its' the first show as well. Even if somebody who was there says differently, I don't think them being at the 2nd show (or both) 34 years ago is definitive proof that the recording we listen to today is not from the 1st show. Since nobody can point out a difference in the setlist or some definitive proof, then I have to believe it's the first show until somebody proves otherwise.

So did Monck use seperate spots as well? I alwasy wondered how he managed to get any definition from the lights after they hit the mirrors.
The Nashvilee shot looks like it makes LieB's point. Stage looks dark. Yet there are some goos spotlights that couldn't have come via mirror.
