HA!

Draggging out 3-4 minute songs to 6 minutes is their specialty!

From B2B and forward...the warhorses have been worn down so much that it's almost a chore to listen to them at all.

Overall great show--I was up top and the sound was great there too--loud guitars.

I thought Imagination was too Chuck centered as well as Under My Thumb--were those break time for Keith?

Midnight Rambler was great!

Yeah--I hate it when they drag out the endings of the warhorses--cut em down and they would have time for another song in the set.

I was never in doubt, Tod. I'm glad that you had a good "send off" (if that's the case - not speculating or anything).

Nice read.

got a $150 ticket for half price. also had a freebie in hand for another location, that I didn't use, per my original post. probably could have gotten in for even less that the half-price - lotsa sellers out there in desperate straits.

My faith is renewed in the Stones after seeing them last night in Oakland!! . A year ago, I was disappointed after seeing an appalling show in San Fransisco. In ranting about the crappy guitar playing, I said that Ronnie's soloing “sounded like an amplified electric garbage disposal with a spoon stuck in it”, and expressed my utter amazement at Keith screwing up the intro to Brown sugar, as well as the bridge to YCAGWYW.

Today, I am on Cloud 9. Last night's show was awesome!! Ronnie and Keith both played well, aside from a few screw ups (Connection crashed and burned!) The band was very tight for the most part, and the sound was like sitting in front of the biggest, loudest, clearest stereo system in the world!. I took three fellow rock musician friends with very discerning ears who had never seen the Stones before, and they were blown away! If the Stones can find a way to maintain this performance level, and health remains good, I can certainly see them celebrating 50 years as an ongoing band in 2012. Please boys, get back in the studio!

I was back there too and met Charlie. It was obvious that live guitars were being played because there was lots of starting and stopping - we couldn't tell who it was and assumed it was guitar techs tuning the guitars. I didn't hear drums, but I did hear vocals - it didn't sound like Bernard, but rather had an older blues voice. Who was that?

Glad you thought it was a great sounding show too. Amazing, crystal clear sound. I called a few folks on the phone during the show and they were amazed at the clarity as well. Not sure why it's not always like this, but at least it was PERFECT for one night....

Hey StonesTod-Sounds like you and I both had the same experience at both concerts. It sure was nice to see the Stones rebound so well this time around!

Glad the sound was great for most people. At stadiums often I will move around to find a good sound spot but we were not going any where given where we were.
Okay - I figured out how to post the pictures - I think

I thought you only had enough for cab fare home. What did you do, mug some old lady?

Re: Oakland comments & reviews

Overall a very good show.

From what a few have said, the guitar mix of Keith and particularly Ronnie's were definitely louder than last year's Pac Bell gig. Maybe that gave Mick voice somewhat of a rest. It was nice to hear Under My Thunb, Let's Spend..., You Got The Silver and Connection (just getting into Btwn the Buttons). Best tracks IMHO were MR (loved the jazzy interlude) and Streets of Love.

Thought overall that they were a bit subdued. Didn't realize until later, that Mick's dad and Ronnie's bro weren't doing well. However, I still think they are tired adn burned out from the long tour. Woulda loved to hear more ABB tracks. Don't get me wrong, I love the warhorses, but there are several tracks on ABB that would've sounded nice.

See you at the 2008-9 Stones tour!

This was my first ever Stones concert. I've been wanting to see them for a while but it has never worked out before this. I thought it was really great.
From where I was sitting the sound was great, loud and clear. This was the uppermost level directly opposite the stage, far away but really close to center.
I thought that they sounded really good, the only thing I noticed was on the last couple songs Mick's voice sounded a little rough, like he was straining it a bit.
Overall it was a really enjoyable show. Definityly worth the wait! I hope they come back so that I can see them again!

What was the graphic on Keith's blue and white jacket? Very cool looking, but I couldn't really figure out what it was. Then, at the end, ALL of those scarves! That was cool!

Connection was a wince moment.

I totally agree with the Chuckee comments. Macy's Day Float time....

i saw it last night but also it passed me by on a clothes rack rolling down the sidewalk outside the beacon - it seemed a little like a camoflage pattern.

I thought Ronnie was singing when they played Lil Red Rooster backstage, but it could have been Blondie.

After havibg read several comments about the @#$%&-ups of Connection, can anybody explain what was wrong there? Seems that Keith @#$%& it up in some way but what exactly happened ?

Re: Oakland comments & reviews
Posted by: StonesTod ()

the way I saw it in Connection, is that everything was going in the "right" direction until it came time for Keith's guitar break after the second verse. He looked down at his axe and fumbled up and down the neck for a few painful moments and finally just gave up. I think that threw him - and then he forgot to sing the next verse and instead broke into the chorus which then threw the whole band off. They muddled around for a bit before somebody shot the damned thing and put it out of its misery.

Wow, that really sounds like a major @#$%& up to me. Anyway, thanks for your post, StonesTod.

yeah, I really felt for KR there...it was like a "senior moment" or something. He looked at his guitar as though he had never seen one before. From what I saw/heard the rest of the night, KR was not quite the same thereafter....

Hey livewithme, Do you have anymore pictures of the b-stage? on SMU or HTW Especially if you see that rasta scarf draped on Charlie's drum set i threw that rasta scarf at Keith the cool thing is he wore it during the curtain call. But he draped it around Charlie's base drum it looked really cool how he did that. I would be stoaked if you have anymore pictures you could post of the b-stage. Thank's, Frank.

livewithme, Do you remember the rasta scarf all draped around charlie's base drum? It was kinda on the left side of the base drum. You all most have it in that one shot but it's only a little bit of the base drum i need the whole base drum if you have it. Much appreciated i was stoaked keith grabed it and whore it at the end total respect. He's the coolest man.
