Hello!

I suggested the Stones and Christina Aguilera shuould record "Gimme Shelter" and do a video shot on that some years ago.
Christina has released one of the best soul-r&b-gospel-rock-etc.-albums with "Stripped" in 2002.
Sadly it took her four years to release a new album. Just forget the songs you see and hear on MTV. "Stripped" has many great songs in the tradition of Motown.

With "Gimme Shelter" they could raise money for charity, giving it to children in war zones.

No offense, Lisa!

Regards from Germany,
Cyrill

OK..How about great missed opportunities with guest artists..

Honky Tonk Women with Janis Joplin

Paint it Black with "our Cilla"

2000 Light Years From Home with Stevie Nicks..In her case 2000 Lights Years from anywhere!

Must admit, when I heard that theyd brought her on to sing with them, I thought the concept sounded horrible. I'll admit that she has a good singing voice, but I dont care for her music in general and find her sex appeal overrated.

However, enough people I know who were there and do have some decent taste in music insisted it was very good and that it worked very nicely. Personally, I'm looking forward to hearing it

LOL. I believe your comment to the post that informed us about this on RocksOff was: "YUCK". Bwaahahahaha....

You and me both man. But if she asked wether or not I'd spend the rest of my life with her, even if she had deceases, I'd say yes. :-D

I read many places that it sounded good, but her voice was drowned out much of the time. A shame if it can't be fixed for the DVD. No reason to get the tissue then.

Christina might not make the DVD. Sheryl Crow didn't make it on the official Voodoo (Miami) dvd.....did she? I could check....but I'm busy typing.

If Mick & Christina become an item....will they be known as MICKTINA or CHRISMICK?
MISTINA? CRICK? MCTNKRIA? winking smiley

I just googled Christina Aguilera....did you know she also has an album called "Stripped"? Spooky.....she's also Let It Bleed....and had a secretary named Wyman. winking smiley (that's a Kennedy/Lincoln reference)

But she really had a cd called STRIPPED.

the fact that she sang the entire song in the wrong key may have well been the main factor in that. Generally, Ive liked her guest appearances OK but her version of "live with me" at that show was a complete and utter abomination.

I'm guessing there's no shortage of volunteers to duet with her on that one.

I'm not a fan of bringing anyone onstage. But she sure beats Justin Timberlake, who came onstage at SARSfest. They also brought out Angus from AC/DC at SARSfest, who fit in...except that his live playing made me realize how far Keith and Ronnie have slacked-off. I'm not an AC/DC fan, but they blew the Stones away.....and specifically Keith and Ronnie away....

Back when I used to listen to mainstream artists, I actually listened to her album, and it does not come close to Motown or anything resembling good music. That album was shit all the way through, whether it was the made-for-MTV singles or the uninspired, listless filler that nobody remembers.

And what is with this fawning over her appearance? She looks like an STD-ridden whore. Not pretty at all. In fact, she marketed that image with the "Stripped" album. All of it her saying, "Look at me, I'm a filthy whore, buy my album!".

And I, myself, don't care to see anybody else other than the Stones at a Stones concert, regardless of whether I like the guest or not. If I want to see Angus or Christina or Justin (not that I'd want to), I'll buy a ticket to see them live. When I go to a Stones concert, I come to see the STONES, and no one else.

jack white and christina,,,,for the most part are marketing ploys to reach audiences of the present and future generations and it should be left at that...buddy's appearance was maybe used for keeping their blues cred intact with us hardcore fans,etc.....personally,,none of these are possibly as damaging as timberlake being on stage with them

I would prefer a duet with Avril Lavigne on Out On Control which is actually very close to her song Unwanted... That chick rocks much more than X-Tina, had similar success and a great voice too.

You're kidding right?

I'd choose Aguilera over mooshy Lavigne anyday!
But the real killer would be...

Kelis.

That girl is a nasty soul singer. She'd be just too cool on Miss You for instance (and she is also hot, btw. Remember Milkshake?).

I guess the Stones once again show they are much more in touch with what's happening today than the average fan. And you can like Christina are not, but there's no denial she can actually really sing.

Agree on everything, but I don't think Keith keeps up. He said he didn't in some Licks Tour interview I think.

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a time when The Stones let virtually NOBODY on stage with them. Through 72/73, I think Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner- that's about it. WHo else at that point?

I guess they are appealing to the Chuckie-Cheese fan base.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Re: Christina & Mick

I kind of wish the Stones didn't do the duet AND didn't play Live With Me, but if they were to do a duet with a chick, Live With Me would be the song, and if they're gonna do it with a pop tart, then Christina is the right choice - she CAN sing, and she's been distancing herself from the whole teenybopper thing. Hell, this appearance will probably wind up selling more records for her than the Stones.

Britney, Jessica, Hillary Duff, or any of that ilk would have been REALLY bad.

Come on. At this point, even I admit that they are more like "the Rolling Stones Orchestra, featuring MKCR" rather than the Stones. Full horn section, 3 backing vocalists, support on guitar and percussion --- don't see that it is compromising their integrity to bring on a guest vocalist from time to time.

Re: Christina & Mick

I have some ideas for guest performers:

Madonna
Janet Jackson
Cindy Lauper
Rosanne
Whoppie (oops she already did it)
Fergie

But under NO CIRCUMSTANCES let Mick Taylor within 100 yards of the stage!!!!!!

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Well, Xtina on stage with them is OK. She once won a grammy for best new artist, still she's by no means a legend, so she will not upstage the Stones (which might be a risk with a Madonna guest appearance for example). Still, Christina can add to the sound by her wailing singing style (to wail being used in jazz jargon here "she really wails").
Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, would really only be a marketing guest. I mean, what does he do himself? If I recall correctly, he came out of N-Sync, a boygroup that were set up to be the successors of Backstreet Boys, who themselves were the US answer to Take That. These groups' strength is usually their dancing, not their singing. Robbie Williams used to emerge from Take That to become a successful solo artist. Timberlake then followed that trail, too. But both of these guys' current material is not rock music, but based on hip hop beats. Imagine Might As Well Get Juiced uptempo with nonsensical lyrics and less melody.
Gwen Stefani would say that this sh't is bananas. In fact, she did.
And Fergie, well, hasn't it caused quite a controversial discussion already on this board, when her band Black Eyed Peas appeared as support act for the Stones? She used to be in that band to sing about "her humps" (quote). Her current material is of the same style as mentioned above.
It's not that rock was dead or ever will be, in fact, I do like the way those nonsensical lyrics are written, but these artists' current material lacks melody.
Ready Or Not, please bring on Lauryn Hill as a guest vocalist, if you want a current artist with credibility as guest.
