Did Mick change a line in "Salt Of The Earth"?

Someone tell me if I am right or wrong about this...

On "Salt Of The Earth" (as it originally appeared on Beggars Banquet) Mick sang "In fact they look so strange" on the chorus. Nowadays, doesn't he sing "They don't look that strange" or something like that? (I believe that he began singin it that way at The Concert For New York right after 9-11... unless I'm misktaken.)

I thought so... I hadn't noticed about "the good and the evil".

Years ago, I saw Goddard's film "Sympathy for The Devil." Early in the film, Mick sang: "I shouted out 'Who killed Kennedy?'". Later on in the film, it was plural Kennedys: "I shouted out 'Who killed the Kennedys?'". Presumably, the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968 happened during the creation of that song, and they changed the line in the song because of RFK's killing.

I can't believe that I didn't notice that they leave that verse out completely nowadays! I had to check it to believe it. ([www.rollingstones.com])

They don't need anyone to cencorship them. They do it well by themselves.

It would have been foolish for them to sing "raise your glass to the evil" at the concert for New York City.

Hasn't Mick also sang "We all look so strange"? This may have been from the Rock 'n' Roll Circus...

The line "to the good and the evil" is Keith's line and him being Keith did change it at the 9/11 show.

That's interesting about "Salt" & "Sympathy"...how could I have missed that "Kennedys" line being dropped. Obviously these were deliberate changes.

(I just listened to "Sympathy" fom the Philadephia '99 NS Tour. The "Kennedys" line was there.....but I think it came later than the studio recording...also it almost seemed like Mick stumbled throught that line as if he didn't intend to sing it (?)......take a listen if you have the recording "Back in Philly with No Security")

Was the "Kennedys" line there for the 40 Licks tour? I'd have to check 40 Flicks.

I think we all know that lines are sometimes changed due simply to poor memory (or not being near a lyric monitor)...that's understandable. As for DELIBERATE lyric changes...Mick changed "Some Girls" on the NS Tour (white girls just wanna get f%&%^ all night). He'll also make minor changes depending on the city they're playing or whatever. The girl's age in "Stray Cat Blues" ranges from 13 to 16. And I think Mick changed "The Spider & the Fly" on STRIPPED.

Any others off the top of your heads?

Not that it matters, I think that he said that about black girls.

(The truth is "ALL girls just wanna get...")

Does Mick still do the "Steve McQueen" line when they do "Star Star"? Does he change the name to a current celeb? I think they played it on the 40 licks tour (might be on 40 FLicks)....I'd have to double check that.

And I think we all remember that Mick wimped out on the Ed Sullivan show when he changed "Let's Spend the Night..." to "Let's Spend Some Time Together".

Yes i know that's why i mentioned it. Black girls on the studio recording....white girls on the No Security Tour. When he performs it in England he probably changes it to English girls wann get "f*&& all night". ?

My hope is that Mick didn't change his lyrics just because Jessie Jackson griped about it.

Salt of the Earth - Twickenham 20-9-03 was the biggest suprise I've ever witnessed at a Stones show.Although it was almost outdone by the following(I think) number...Rock me Baby with the Young brothers.

I'll have to listen to the boot ,as I can't remember if the lyrics were changed.

I wonder if MicK ever again sang the "Boulevards of Paris" verse from Ya-Yas "Honky Tonk Woman" after 1969? Or the "... tipplin' a jar in Jackson" line in the first verse, from LIB?

I think that it shows that Mick and the Stones are really still thinking about what they are saying/singing and playing to this day. Which is admirable. Even to the extent of re-considering the lyrics, as well as the instrumental arrangements. Someone else pointed it out... It would not have felt right if they had sung "raise your glass to the good AND the evil" after 9-11.

I think that in the case of switching white for black in "some girls" it further adds to the point of the song. (Let's NOT turn this thread into a discussion sex and race and the stones etc. thing..... )

Anyone notice that he changed the lines:

I'd never pee if your feets were burnin'
I'll never leave your pizza burnin' (Beast Of Burden)

Waiting for a fat furry girl (factory girl)

and I'm so half of you
I'm so half of you
I'm so half of you, And you're so whole... (She's So Cold)

You don't hear him sing 'em like that anymore.

Mick did sing the "... tipplin' a jar in Jackson" line at Knebworth.

The extra verse of HTW was used on the '75/'76 tour as well,if I remember correctly.

The full lyrics of Sympathy were used from the time they brought the song back half of the way through the '94 U.S. tour up until '99.

I do believe that during the Licks tour when Mick was singing Respectable and going thru his divorce from Jerry that he changed the line at the end from Don't take my wife, to go f--- my wife - did anyone else notice this as well??
