For me, there are just few good numbers on Dirty Work: One Hit (To The Body), and maybe Had It With You and Sleep Tonight.
In contrast, A Bigger Bang is a real showbag of rocking numbers, just with a marginal small number of songs I never listen to: She Saw Me Coming and Back Of My Hand. The rest is fine!
So: IMO, A Bigger Bang is much better!

DW is a Ron/Keith album - better guitars than ABB. Serious 80's production sound issues, drums sound terrible - Mick's yelling ruins many songs that could be good.
Listen to Hold Back, great guitars, great groove, Mick's singing is almost unbearable(lyrics arn't great either). Dirty Work, Too Rude(if you like reggae), Had it With You, Fight, One Hit and Hold Back are probably better than you remember - must be played loud.

ABB is a Mick/Keith album and let's face it mostly Mick. This is not a bad thing. Take out the filler and the best songs are better than DW - sound is better. Drums sound great if not too loud. Guitars are fine, but a far cry from the Ronnie/Keith dual guitaring I fell in love with.

It's ABB by a hair.

I'd say ABB isn't as bad as DW. Nothing makes me wince like "Back to Zero".

BTB does kinda bore me WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "Saint of Me" and "Out of Control" which are their best songs in their whole post Tattoo You studio mess.

Beggars Banquet
Let It Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile On Main Street

- or -

Emotional Rescue
Dirty Work

Don't really see the point in the latter batch. Why skip TY, VL and SW?
Nothing touches the first 4 you mentioned, although VL is close to Beggars Banquet for me.

Their 4 best:
EOMS.
SF.
LIB.
BB.

Their 4 worst:
DW.
ER.
TSMR.
Undercover.

IMO...

Of course, all of this is just guesswork, but It Won't TAke Long sounds like Keith to me.

If I were to buy a Stones album now, and the only ones they had at the store were 'A Bigger Bang' and 'Dirty Work' (which is unlikely, but hey, they may somehow be sold out)...

I'd rather not buy anything because I already have ABB, which is the one I'd recommend in this case.

Defensive?? I dont see that ..I see three ballads ...And Time waits..wich they could have written now without the M Taylor Santana Thing.

>>DW contained their biggest hit of the 80's (Undercover)

Wrong album and Harlem Shuffle was a bigger hit than Undercover Of The Night.

Wrong in one other kinda critical way as well, Undercover wasn't on DW. It was on another album called . . . Undercover.

I always hated dirty work and undercover, thinking that they were both equally shit albums. However, after she was hot being played in chicago, i dug out undercover and i must say im really digging it. All the way down, too tough, she was hot, i really love these songs. The album closer, i forgot the name, has a guitar riff which is a complete rip off from one of the main riffs in soul survivor.

So, maybe if i was to listen to DW a few times, who knows...?

One hit to the body is a great track, harlem shuffle is cool and sleep tonight is nice, but some of those lyrics and micks 'singing' really put me off!!

...and if we're talking the 80's, my guess for the biggest hit of that decade would be "Start Me Up"? (And perhaps "Emotional Rescue" for runner-up)
