have the stones played an entire album at a show?
Posted by: canadian.sway ()

i know the some girls shows certainly feature almost the whole album, but have the stones every played every cut from an album at a concert?

i ask because, the tragically hip just put out a new album this week, and are playing 4 club gigs in toronto (for which i was lucky enough to score a ticket to), but they played a suprise show at a small tavern in toronto two nights ago and apparently played the new album in its entirety as well as a few old gems.

i love the idea of a band getting behind a new album like that, especially in a tiny venue.

as well, which albums feature the least number of songs played live? undercover? dirty work? satanic majesties request?

I think this is a really interesting idea. Bowie has done several shows where he has performed two whole albums. It really worked out very well. And who better than the Stones to rediscover the countless lost gems buried in their work? I would also like to see themed shows, ie. Country, Blues, soul, etc.
These would obviously be in smaller venues. Any thoughts!

This is what Iron Maiden are doing on their current tour. 15 songs. The first 10 are the new album in its entirety, then 5 old hits.

Ive seen Lou Reed play New York in its entirety, well almost since he skipped one or two tracks.

I suspect they probably played most of their first album most nights in the last days of their London residencies.

[Not quite what the question was referring to but...........]

Disneyland After Dark aka D-A-D played their latest album Scare Yourself in its entire length at the release party and some few small gigs after.

Kind regard

Nope.

The only Stones albums where every song has at some time been played live are :

Out of Our Heads (US version), Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Black and Blue and Some Girls

And in each case, theyve never played all of the songs from the album on one tour, let alone on one show.

Metallica played entire Master of Puppets live during this year's festivals and it went great. On the other hand Neil Young's idea to play entire Greendale live wasn't that good although I love the album. The closest the Stones were to play entire album live was in 78 US tour. I would love to hear them play entire Sticky Fingers one by one but this will never happen. And Mick played almost entire Wandering Spirit live in 1993 which was just fantastic!

And Keith did the entire Talk Is Cheep in 88.

Trick question. Hot Rocks Part 2 (released as a single CD early on in both Europe and Japan):

JJF
SFM
SFTD
HTW
GS
MR
BS
YCAGWYW
Wild Horses

I am not a setlist maniac, but I am sure that there must have been a number of shows where all of these songs were played.

Interesting thought drbyant but your answer does not meet the topics qualifications . The key word is entirety . Your suggestion has omitted 12 others.

Its more of a prog rock thing I think. I remember going to see Jethro Tull years ago. My mate had smoked too many joints and keeled over in the toilets cracking his head off the sink on the way down. He was out cold - and needed first aid. When he came to he insisted on watching the rest of the show. The Tull were still playing the same bloody song - Thick as a brick. Which is a whole album in itself - I kinda wished I had taken his ambulance to get the hell out!

Mick did: 9 Feb 1993 in NYC "Wandering Spirit".

While the Rolling Stones have played live all tracks on certain studio albums: Sticky Fingers, Some Girls, Let it Bleed (if you include Country Honk on 21 Aug 1976 @ Knebworth), Out of Our Heads and maybe debuet LP: Rolling Stones...they never performed all LP tracks live in one single, indivudual concert.

I believe they came close in 1978 when most of "Some Girls" was done live....it was in 1989 that "Before They Make Me Run" was done live, and 21 years after release before the title song made its live premiere ....

Live premiere by the Stones was in 1989, yes.
But the New Barbarians played it 10 years earlier.

here is a totally insane question to ask, and if anyone has the answer i think you win a huge award.
what is the record number of albums represented in a one night show's setlist?
example, this set seems to have songs from at least 13 albums:

1.Satisfaction
2.It's Only Rock'N'Roll
3.Flip The Switch
4.Let's Spend The Night Together
5.Gimme Shelter
6.Sister Morphine
7.Anybody Seen My Baby?
8.19th Nervous Breakdown
9.Out Of Control
10.Factory Girl
11.Miss You
12.All About You
13.Wanna Hold You
14.Little Queenie
15.Crazy Mamma
16.The Last Time
17.Sympathy For The Devil
18.Tumblin' Dice
19.Honky Tonk Women
20.Start Me Up
21.Jumpin' Jack Flash

Encore:
22.Brown Sugar

Hilarious post! ...somehow I just can't seee the boys deciding to do this for a show (play an entire album or two). Not that I wouldn't like it...but I think they, especially Mick, would think that's too predictable or rote or whatever...
