Ah...........I love them both but I think Brussels Affair is better.....I just think the Stones were playing better then. The '69 American Tour was the first tour they had played since early 1967 and obviously it was their first with Mick Taylor. By the time they played Brussels, near the end of the '73 European Tour, they had toured every year since '69 (although the '71 English Tour was very short, 3 weeks I think) and they were a better live band by then. And while I personally feel some of the '72 shows had more of a spark than some '73 performances I've heard, they were also more ragged and raw sounding (which is not neccessarily a bad thing). But I think by the time they hit Brussels on the '73 European tour, they were at their absolute peak. Druggy, decadent, bluesy rock'n'roll at its' finest.
Come on, cool all black stage clothes with White Leo symbol and Uncle Sam Hat or Glam Jump Suit, stuffing socks and over done make up......anyway, Ya Ya's has the best live sound mix EVER...
You cannot compare an official to a bootleg. But for what it was for a generation of Stones fans : Ya-Ya's. Setlist is by the way better : SFTD. For musical emotionnal moments : Brussels. Duos btw Keith and MickT lack of superlative.

Now THAT is what I call a sensible answer. The thing about the Rolling Stones is that when confronted by a choice of "this or "that", the immediate way out of the crisis is to err on the side of caution and go for "both".

Yeah, but remember, Sophie ended up killing herself.....
If you have ever heard the 7.5 IPS Reel To Reel version of Ya Yas, you would know what I mean! Its UNBELIEVABLE...so is the KBFH 7.5 IPS reel of Brussels...but its still no conteat...Ya Yas... track list, just kills...
Musically "Ya-Ya's" is the band at its sexiest. The slower tempos are so controlled, delicious, confident. When the band struck those slower opening chords of JJF the audience gasped. The band required the audience to come to them, rather than playing to the audience. You have definitive version #1 of LIV (L&G version being #2). SFTD is one of the great live performanances in RnR history. The Brussels MR is brilliant, exciting, a guitar onslaught, but I prefer the "Ya-Ya's" stealthy version. The song selection on "Ya-Ya's" makes a statement, too. We are the worthy heirs of American RnR and blues.
lol We could argue about it, but we'd both be quibbling. 7/26/72 was one of the band's great, great shows. My point was: Leave it to Taylor to come up with TWO definitive versions of the same song. It's an oxymoron, I know.
Have to go with Ya-Ya's. It has more of a devilish rock 'n roll punch to it. Something that Brussels lacks. Brussels is a bit too perfect for my tastes. Doesn't even sound like the Stones some places.
