They were complete and utter shite. Wattie was a racist prat and the rest of that band were the most talentless tossers this side of Paris Shitbytheton. Actually, most of those third generation Brit punk bands were postcard cliches. The American ones from the same era, on the other hand, were superb - Black Flag, DOA, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys ....

Hilarious that there's a thread on HERE about them though.

And ... Kill The Poor, Holiday in Cambodia, California Uber Alles, Moon Over Marin, Police Truck .... Great band.

I used to think Jello Biafra was great - fighting censorship and the Moral Majority etc etc - until it turns out that he ripped off the rest of the band to the tune of $500,000. Never been able to take him seriously since.

Do you remember Crass? They were probably the most punk band of all those wretched mohican/skinhead no chord blunder, in that they stayed true to the Year Zero/DIY ethos.

Anyway, The Exploited hated them and slagged them off at every opportunity. Crass retaliated in a very funny way. They released a Christmas single (probably a pro-turkey anthem) and had a contest on the back.

First prize: bath salts
Second prize: two Exploited records
Third prize: three Exploited records

I never really liked this kind of punk-music, but I had some friends who listened to it. Our band used their rehearsal-room for a year, and we had some drinks now and then.
But Dead Kennedys appeared more for real than Exploited, I must say. But neither of them have an appeal to me.

We were not thinking about political correctness or something like that. Did not interest us. Crass were for the students. Not for the punks on the streets. I was there. Only a half year. That means that I was a poser too.

It's an old "fight". I don't like Crass.. to good to be punk.. .LOL.

You missed the point of my post. Read it again.

I always thought Crass were complete crap, but I respected them for staying true to the whole punk ethos.

The first GBH ep was pretty good - Leather, Bristles, Studs & Acne.

Delighted to see you mention the Angelic Upstarts. Their first three albums were superb, especially Three Million Voices.

Oh and The Ruts .... REVERENCE! WHAT A BAND! And what an utter tragic loss Malcolm Owen's death was. I was pretty cut up about that that the time because I'd met him before a gig. He signed my copy of The Crack. Lovely man.

"A good exploited song" is a contradiction in terms.

With Nikolai's way of counting Exploited is the 22nd generation
after those lads, Rockman! No problem counting these dudes or
Daltrey (well, Townsend at least) as early punkers.
But the common notion is that punk rock in its original meaning
started about 1976.
We will have a 30th anniversary back in my hometown soon.

Yes you are right. Now, years after it's true. Crass did not "sell" out etc. I read your post late in the night. I was a little bit fast (and....). Sorry for that.

Oh you met Malcolm!!! ahhhh
