One of my all-time favorite "band" songs isn't a rock tune -- it's Waylon Jennings' "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way". It's a classic "road" song.
"It's the same old tune, fiddle and guitar Where do we take it from here Rhinestone suits and new shiny cars We've been the same way for years We need to change
Somebody told me when I got to Nashville Son you finally got it made Old Hank made it here, were all sure that you will But I don't think Hank done it this way I don't think Hank done it this way
Ten years down the road, making one night stands Speeding my young life away Tell me one more time just so I understand Are you sure Hank done it this way Did Ol' Hank really do it this way?
I've seen the world with a five piece band Looking at the back side of me Singing my songs and one of his now and then But I don't think Hank done 'em this a'way No I don't think Hank done 'em this a'way"
The rock band "Chequered Past", with Michael Des Barres and Steve Jones, covered this way back in the 80s. I loved their version. Themes like this for traveling bands are universal, regardless of the type of music you play. I've been there, and done that. At the bare subsistence level, it isn't much fun.

Slade: "Far Far Away" - "Bangin' Man" - "How Does It Feel" Deep Purple: "Smoke on the Water" Gnags: "Rockband på landevejen" (another Danish band) Credence Clearwater Revival: "Travelin' Band" (on the new Jerry Lee I believe?)

That's the great thing about threads like this - make you go back to songs you haven't listened to in a while - Ol' Waylon is now spinning happily on my disc ;-)
I'm the oldest son of a crazy man I'm in a cowboy band Got a pile of sins to pay for and I ain't got time to hide I'd walk through a blazing fire, baby, if I knew you was on the other side.
