Let me just give a shout out for the new U2 DVD. I always thought the sound mix was horrible on the VHS and Pay per view versions. That has been fixed with the brilliant DTS sound mix. It's still A tiny bit harsh BUT Bono's voice is mixed way up in the center speaker and there's a lot more bass. Great camera work and fantastic quality considering it will soon be 13 years old. Second disc of extra's is great. Well worth the cash for U2 fans.....MB (4.5 STARS out of 5)

Here is IMHFO

The Dylan album is wonderful.
I won't listen to the new Beck, because he's a Sciento creep and the last 2 albums sucked.
The Neil Young album is lyrically good, but musically weak, same old 3 chords and whiny vocals.
The Pearl Jam album is one of their best, refreshing and has a lot of unpretentious straightahead rock n roll on it.
I didnt hear the new Los Lobos yet, but i'm sure it will be good, only because they just don't make bad records and are quite possibly the best band of the last 20 years, but no one noticed.
The rest I didnt hear, but I would love to read your feedback on the Jet,Black Crowes and Los Lobos releases.

From your list, I think you would like the New York Dolls and Bonnie Prince Billy
albums which have recently been released, both are great.

For a double CD I think Stadium Arcadia is excellent with great songs on it. Not being a musican I think the guitarist is very good.

Just reading a review of 'Shine On' by Jet (A band I don't know much about) in the UK Independant Newspaper it gives the CD 2/5 implying that it is unoriginal Stadium Rock. Stones fans may (not) be interested to know that the reviewer ends the review with the following

'There'll always be a demand for well -wrought blue collar rauch rock and the Stones can't fulfill it forever. Can they?'

I think that a compliment.

Sorry for those people who are not interested in what papers say about music.

The Neil Young album's a fookin' atrocity - shite music, shite lyrics and his voice is really pissing me off these days.

Bob Dylan's Modern Times is a masterpiece.

Couldn't care less about the rest, sorry. Especially Jet, who are bollocks.

And why bother making his anti-war album now, in 2006, like he's just noticed? the likes of Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks stuck their necks out when it wasn't popular to do so. And good on 'em! What did Neeyall bring to the table? Nada! Go write some more songs about your barn you boring old fart! (By the way, folks, I used to love Neeeyall up to and including Broken Arrow; I've defended everything he's done bar the dire Everbody's Rockin' - BUT his last three albums have been dire - except for Bandit).

I have yet to listen to the new one but I kinda find JET to be an updated HUMBLE PIE (umm, gonna get some sh*t for that one). They're from Australia and kinda have that AC/DC attitude (and sound just a tiny bit like them...TINY BIT).

NEIL YOUNG'S new one really is disappointing (as much as I wanna like it)

Yeah, humanriff77, I'm a big NY Dolls fan, have the original 2 on vinyl, will have to get their new one...thanks for mentioning it....

Agree, BOB DYLAN and CHILI PEPPERS are top notch, both are pure excellent work...

The new Neil Young cd rocks and makes a powerful statement.
The new Pearl Jam..I wanted to like but it bored me.
The new Dylan is a masterpiece.

The new Iron Maiden for the haevy metal guys and gals out there is also topnotch. This is how a metal band shoulf mature. Songs about war, hard times and life..not just sex.

Stadium Arcadium is a great album. I would definatly recomend it. Some funky stuff but the most powerful songs are the quiet slow ones.

The guitar playing is top-notch and the vocal harmonies are just beautiful.

In fact, go out now and buy their last 3 albums too.

currently listening to LOST CROWES and i must say it's one of there best. on the TALL sessions i enjoy FEATHERS and LOWDOWN, the BAND disc has WYOMING AND ME and LIFEVEST as my favorites. pity the band has just lost 2 key members MARC FORD and EDDIE HARSCH[guitar and keyboards] at the start of there current tour so dont know if they will tour behind this.

damn sparks, why don't you tell us how you really feel.

sorry you don't agree, but I doubt you actually have listened to the album. I know I wouldn't spend $15 to buy a album of a band I don't like. And you quite obviously don't like the chilli's.

Too bad for you. You are missing some amazing songs.

On the mellow side...

The new Sparklehorse is very good, if a little bit samey to some of his previous stuff.

A great pop album is "Live a Little" by The Pernice Brothers. Sort of like Big Star (in the day) only with more melody and less arena-ness. Joe Pernice (don't think there is another brother, actually) is a great songwriter.

Haven't heard the new Los Lobos, but agree with the Humanriff, they've never made a bad album.

Neil Young; as Eric Carthman says, "Hippies suck"
