Mick's mis-heard lyrics
Posted by: skl127 ()
Date: September 29, 2006 19:27

Mick does state that he intentionally sings the lyrics to his songs vaguely a la Fats Domino in Blueberry Hill, but even so here's three for starters

WALKING THE DOG: "See heaven, jump the fence' - should of course be "see the elephant jump the fence!'

STAR STAR: "I bet you're gonna get your thing before you die" - should of course be "Yeah, I'll make bets that you're gonna get John Wayne before he dies!"

STRAY CAT BLUES: "It's no hanging in my court, it's no capital crime" - should of course be, though I only realised recently" It's no hanging ma-tter - it's no capital crime"

Any more genuine ones?

At one point, I thought he said "i'll make bets that you don't get your man before the night".

"I'll make a bet, that you wouldn't get, your man before he dies" come on honey, simple as "baking" pop-tarts....

When I was really young, I thought the "drums beating, cold english blood runs hot" line was something like "drums beating, cold in the butt Ron's hap".

When listening to me blaring "Respectable" at full volume, my Mum misheard Mick's hollering somewhat by asking me "whats that he's singing? 'Crack The Bone' ?"

In "Beast Of Burden" - throw it all at me, I'll just shrug it off - I thought he was saying "crying laughter, I'll just shrug it off".

There's a lot of lines in BoB that I got wrong when it first came out.

Yeah, all your sickness
I can suck it up

I don't remember what I thought the first line was, I think I just mumbled it, but I thought he said "I can suck a duck".

I know, it doesnt make sense, but that's what I heard.

My buddy thought for a long time that Angie was Angel.

And what's up with @#$%&....every live version I have every heard Mick always sings this line in gibberish: "Get in the tub and get your hood"

He never sings those words, just sounds that fit the melody. What's the deal? Does he not remember the line every time or is it intentional?

Great archive of misheard lyrics is here:

BTW: The title of this page comes from "Foxy Lady" which is probably the most common misheared lyrics all time.

'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky --> 'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy.

"The real lyrics were:
Smoke on the water
A fire in the sky

But I misheard them as:
Slow motion Walter
The fire engine guy."

From link above.

Mad mate and life time friend Lou used to be mixed up
in a couple of Stones songs till we straightened him out....

Grown Up Wrong
Lou: Baby go for a row
Mick: Well you've grown up all wrong

Lou: Call me lizard balls
Mick: Call me lazy bones

"Call me lizard balls"

That's great.

I used to think Mick said "If you sho faw de fahr de shushhuy feet" instead of "Plug in/flush out and fire the f@ckin' feed" until I read the lyrics online.

Hell, I probably still have it wrong.

I always thought on Beast of Burden that Mick sung "My back is broke, but it's a'hurtin'.

I don't understand a single word he says but I sing along anyhow.
Can't wait to do it live at Dodger Stadium.

For years I thought Mick sang "between the buttons" on "Dirty Work". I prefer my version. (I'd have to look up what he actually sings there but I really have no excuse as that album came w/the lyrics on the sleeve...).

Mrs. roadster told me the following

"I was a butcher caught in the meat."
and
"My best friend he shots waterrats and feeds them to his kids."

The actual line is "plug in flush out and fight and fu*ck and feed".

Glam, I still think he's saying "between the buttons, get away from me".

One from a friend - On Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner" he thought the line was "Big Old, leave that light on" - scary!
