he must be dead like many who approached the band
too tough for him

When you hear the story it sounds like Keef smacked him right on his head with the guitar. When you watch it you can see that the guy puts his arms up and bounces the blow. If he was pummeled it was probably by the security. He was able to run right after the blow.

I think they actually met backstage.

He was with the ballon crew, not someone in the audience

I once witnessed a "guitar on the nogging" once - but that was with the Clash in Wiesbaden.
the punk audience was spittin' at the band so they they stopped the show and invited someone onto the 2 meters high stage.
Joe Strummer gave a hand to someone & helped him up the stage.
he put his left arm on the guys shoulder and spoke to the audience that he didn't like all this spitting & stuff.
after the last word was out he banged his telecaster headstock on the guys head, gave him a boot in arse - and he went flying off stage.
no spitting after that, as I recall.

I once caught an airborne Fender P-bass to the cheek and was down for the count.

Guitars hurt when used as weapons/projectiles.

And there was that guy on the Sex Pistols North American jaunt. Copped a bass on the head from Sid Vicious.

note: never annoy a guitar - or bassplayer - he might just beat the brat with the bass (ball bat)

The worst part was that he was in my own band!

He just let it fly at the end of the show and I guess underestimated his own strength.

The next thing I knew, he was straddling me and slapping my face, trying to wake me up.

Just a dodgy experience all around, but the crowd loved it. And I got sympathy sex afterward (not from the bass player, thankfully).
