No, I am not sure. I have not seen the Let's Spend the night video in ages. But I think it's ronnie on the 2006 version on you tube, so I guess it was him in 81 too!
It's Mac taking over the riff from Keith. And I hear Bill playing with it or parts of it as well. Hey, what other rock band shares themes like that: they're the finest virtuoso chamber musicians!

On the 81-82 version and if I'm not wrong, Keith starts playing the riff, but when he's playing the solo, Wood takes the duties on this department. It used to be a good example of the infamous weaving
The chords are descending Em-D-C, so I would guess starting at the 7th position, to the 5th to the 3rd. Play the riff on the A and D string. I don't know if the 81/82 version is in the same key, though.

I play it in F# min, E, D. Quite sure it is done this way.
Yep. F#M to get the right chord inversions and the right vibe throughout the verse and chorus parts.
Folks are often asking how to get the guitar parts to sound right when they cop stones songs. Very often they don't sound right because the two guitars are required to give the overall picture. A lot of parts in isolation can sound plain wrong ! It's part of what makes the Stones guitar partnerships so interesting.

The sound is easy: take a '72 Custom, flip the switch in the middle possition and crank that Boogie Mark IIB 300 watt Coloseum amp way high through an Elctrovoice EVL12 equipped 4*12 cabinet. For the solo (in A pentatonic major), flip to the bridge pickup and use a volume booster to hit he pre-amp a little harder.
Of course, also use large amounts of cocaine, and only drink Jack Daniels.

OH BROTHER!! I totally disagree. First of all any tele would do. Also use the 1st position toggle swith and go through a Twin with JBLs. Use a MXR + for ditrtion and boast. For the solo use D diatonic. This mathijs guy has no idea. I think he just makes crap up from what I've read. I think he is on coke and JD all the tie from what he writes.

uh....I described what Keith actually used himself on the 1981 tour....
Mathijs ps the solo is in A, not D. ApentMajor is about the same as F#m, the key of the song.
