B-stage in Glasgow... woaw!
Posted by: otonneau ()

Miss you is superb, with a rhythmic hyper-activity comparable to the 78 versions, great organ - does Mick say something about Britney after the break?

Rough Justice, at last it's rough! Keith is a heavy, heavy weigh on that one and the voice is low in the mix as it should be.

Start me up is probably my favourite version ever - ROoooonnie! His solo is amazing, rhythmically inventive, funky and sexy - and each and every of Charlie's roll is slick, chic and swing.

Honky Tonk Women - it's been a long time since I last enjoyed a version of that one - but what a version! Again a heavy Keith, and the mix is great with the percussions up front.

And of course, on all songs, Mick Mick Mick!

Sorry, had to say this, am back home and at last can hear this concert on my good ol' stereo and I'm stunned. Amazed. Blown away. They're sooooo goooood!!

Do you know that Keith didn't play most part of the song because of problems with his guitar. So it seems that your favorite version ever of Start Me Up is the one when Keith don't play ;-)

Jumping Jack Flash, I do hear Keith on the version - so perhaps he wasn't heard from the crowd, but still came out on the soundboard.

I don't know if he was heard from the crowd, i was at the b-stage, second row just in front of him (only during the b-stage set) and because of the echo and the crowd going crazy around the stage, it was hard to hear anything. All i can say is that Keith didn't play for at least one, maybe two minutes, due to problem with his guitar, probably with the wireless stuff (don't know the name of that thing).
So the guy you hear on the recording is not Keith, or it is not direct live Keith. Maybe rerecording. Maybe Blondie covering from the backstage, maybe Ronnie higher in the mix, i don't know.
Hard to believe uh? OK, here are the pictures.

interesting. something funky happened out there at the first Twickenham show too,
toward the end of Miss You; Keith didn't go silent but he was rechecking his connection (or whatever to call it)
between every b-stage number. Mick warily asked him "what are you doing", as if -
LoFL! never mind. :E
... which 69 show is the "i think we got a problem" gig?

blondie is covering for KR alot more than many realize or are willing to admit.

do you mean the one where they lose power and have to play the acoustic songs near the start of the show? First Oakland show I think

I listened to Start me up (here on the board some weeks ago) - A VERY tough Start me up-riff. And that sure as hell wasn´t Ron. It was open G. It was great!Anewand sober Keith, I thought. But you mean it could be Blondie, Tod?

That may explain why it was a bit out of sync...

That's not true! And I've never even considered it for a fact!

Jumpinjackflash59,

hmmm - he is surely audible on the recording, I mean the guitar in open G. Not Ronnie. Yo ucan hear to electric guitars strumming. I recall that somewhere in the middle of the song Keith guitar suddenly came very loud, like a big bang. But...if Keith's guitar @#$%& up and he was not playing, it means somebody would immediately had to cover him. Strange, are you sure you took those pictures during the song? I mean Charlie is rather looking like waiting for a song to start and NOT playing drums at the moment the pictures were taken. Also, nobody else reported anything like that you're reporting. I mean no offense, I'm just curious...

The actual setlists (used by the band and crew) says START ME UP .... BC GTR (=Blondie Chaplin guitar),

well it aint common knowledge to me. You are a heretic. You assume that if you shout it loud enough people will believe it to be true. Please dont be so condescending. Oh and I was at the Glasgow gig. They were awesome!

sorry to burst your little bubble - heresy or not - it's a fact, jack. shouldn't detract from enjoyment of show - I love the Glasgow board - Blondie's on fire!

well = he uses his acoustic guitar also on Satisfaction and couple other numbers, what does not mean he is covering anyone - which is bullshit. Blondie's acoustic guitar playing role is to fill the background with some extra streaming - and please do not reply that it is to fill spaces where Keith or Ronnie are not playing. It is not true.

I haven't heard anyone else who was at the b-stage talking about Keith not playing during Start Me Up for 1 or 2 minutes, what does not mean it didn't happen. It might. But I think above pictures where made after Rough Justice and before Start Me Up. Charlie is not playing.

I was also at Glasgow, which was fantastic. I can recall seeing Keith take off his guitar right towards the end of the song - maybe 15-20 seconds before the end. The guitar sounds were all over the place throughout - sometimes great, sometimes shite. On the broadcast you can indeed hear Keith's riff right until the end of the song. Listening back, the SMU riff is played very consistently throughout the whole song, which is very unkeef-like these days, although it does sound like him. I suspect it could be a bit of sampling from an earlier part of the performance (i.e. when Keith actually was playing) that's been repeated to beef up the sound during the dropout/s. Regarding Blondie covering for Keith during SMU, I wonder why he didn't do this at Saitama during that awful moment when Keith stops playing in order to waive his arms about, leaving us with Chuck's plinky rendition of the rhythm part.

Ok Im too tired to argue. Im sure Twickenham was great. Hope you enjoyed it. I think the whole UK tour went great. I was in St Loius back at the end of January, and that was awesome too - especially Get off of my cloud - always wanted to hear that one.

sorry to wear you out, loose. i'm not complaining about the shows or the performance - been enjoying the glasgow show as I type...but to think that Blondie isn't playing alot of KR's parts these days just means you're not paying close attention. sorry.
