If Brian was killed (and hey - it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility), I think it was by the builders. Drunken horseplay that got out of hand, basically.
But all this shit about Mick being involved either because Brian owned the name or because the Stones were terrified that Brian would start a band and steal their audience is just ridiculous.
- the Stones had access to lawyers & Brian was relatively broke, so if the former was true, a settlement could have easily been reached
- Brian, though very talented, was not going to be stealing the Stones' thunder in 1969. Would he have been successful? Sure. He was Brian Jones, after all, and he would have had top-notch musicians in his band. But a cultural force like the Stones? Please.
