OT: Radiohead

I see lots of different bands mentioned on this board, as well as differnet genre's. I hardly ever see Radiohead mentioned, maybe never? What's peoples opinion on Radiohead?

My opinion is, they are one of the best bands in the last 10 years. I like what they do.

I like them, I respect them, I get engrossed in much of their work sonically & lyrically, but overall I find all the albums slightly uneven in different ways - in terms of several tracks that are too obscure, or ineffective melodically, or turgid. But generally smart, talented, interesting, at best cathartic.

Why does my screen say '1 view' when two of us have posted?

i love em. great band, always willing to go their own way instead of the way the record company big wigs prefer

when you are massive, yet still do what the @#$%& you want rather than trying to recreate your biggest release, it has to be applauded (imo)

they're an amazing live band too

Yes I was more impressed with them live than any of the records actually - there was a directness sometimes missing on disc. No question they follow their own path. Have not heard T.Y.'s solo album yet.

Eclectic, power-driven, yet mellow.....love Radiohead.

Radiohead may be the most exciting band out there that is still building in creativity and innovation. Thom Yorke solo is also good but I hope that he focuses more on the band now that his first solo album is out.

I liked the singles Anyone Can Play Guitar and Creep. The Bends and OK Computer were also very good. I'm not TOO keen on their direction since though.

Listen to al the non album tracks from Ok computer (on the cd-singles). The are very, very, very good!

Don't like it. I heard all this fuzz about OK Computer. Then I borrowed it from a pal and thought that there was nothing speacial about it. It sounded like some Bowie-ish rip-off.

I have tried for years to like OK Computer. It keeps appearing on the alltime best lists. People that I respect love the band and that album. And I think that I am just totally missing out on something; that I'm just stupid or something. But everytime I put on that album it bores me to death. So I wqent out and got "The Bends" which IMO is a bit better. Thing is I just don't go for that whole 'paranoia, self-loathing ' bit.

Pablo Honey okay, Bends better, Computer better, Kid A okay, Amnesiac okay, I Might Be Wrong good, haven't played Hail To The Thief.

Probably the most important band of the last decade. Genuine innovators, awesome textures, superb vocals. Always difficult & challenging which is good in my book. I saw them at the V Festival last month one night before seeing the Stones at Twickenham: an interesting contrast. Almost polar opposites in some ways - whereas the Stones live offer an inclusive upbeat celebration, Radiohead give a dark, unsettling, alienated show.

That prize goes to Nirvana for sure.

Just listen to How I Made My Millions, then you'll understand York. The line 'our boddies floating down the muddy river' (from spinning plates) just gives me the creeps every time. It's horror and beauty in one. That's Radiohead!!

Nirvana haven't even existed in the last decade!

As the last decade was the nineties they actually did Tseverin.

the last decade is deemed as, 'the last 10 years', is it not?

Cobain put himself out of his misery in '94... frighteningly, 12 years ago now.

I see the last decade as in we're in the 00s now, and then, logically, the last decade was the nineties..... Or the decade just before armageddon, but I don't think we're quite there yet.

No, that would be the price for most overrated band of the nineties.

The Bends :good album
OK Computer:excellent ,truly a classic
Hail to the thief:mediocre
Looking forward to hearing T Yorke solo effort.

To me the greatest band since U2 and Nirvana.

@olympia
I was sort of disappointed by T.Y. record. I more liked this Johnny Greenwood thing that came out a couple of years ago.
OK Computer/Kid A/Amnesiac, that was all great but ever since what we get to hear is not bad, but it is neither very convincing.
