NINE ESSENTIAL DVD Releases - where are they?
Posted by: MicksBrain ()
Date: September 2, 2006 05:48

I was thinking about the official (non boot) shows, films, or video specials that were officially released at one time by the biggest bands out there - including THE STONES - but are now NOT AVAILABLE. Wondering if anybody has any info if these are ever gonna come out PROPERLY on DVD. Here's my list:

LET IT BE - The Beatles (probably the most obvious M.I.A.)

BEATLES LIVE AT SHEA STADIUM 1965 - this was an ABC TV Special and from the looks on the BEATLES ANTHOLOGY clips it's held up great in the color and sound departments...

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - The Stones (we've talked about this a lot on iorr)

BOB DYLAN 30th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT AT MSG - plenty of the great ones doing Dylan songs at MSG. A very young Eddie Vedder does a highly emotional fantastic MASTERS OF WAR. GEORGE HARRISON, ERIC CLAPTON, TOM PETTY, NEIL YOUNG, MELLENCAMP all do 2 numbers each (not to mention a slightly buzzed Bob doing 3 or 4). Highly edited version out on CD so what about the DVD?

ROLLING STONES ANTHOLOGY - 25 x 5 is it? Have it on VHS tape but would love to have it on DVD - without the songs shortened - and updated to 2006.

McCARTNEY UNPLUGGED - this was a great show with a couple rarely played songs (And I Love Her and She's A Woman). McCartney puts out tons of stuff, where's this one?

NIRVANA UNPLUGGED - a very special show with the band in top form playing many surprise numbers. CD is out, why no DVD, what's the problem?

U2 POPMART SHOW LIVE IN MEXICO CITY - has been out on Video, Bono called it one of their best shows and many of the songs - in audio only - have been officially released as extra songs on singles

U2 ZOO TV LIVE FROM SYDNEY - again, a great show (sound mix not tops but so be it) with 3 or 4 songs off of the new (at the time) ZOOROPA CD. this one's missing too (even though RATTLE AND HUM is out on it's 4th reissue)

ANY INFO ON ANY OF THESE WOULD BE APRECIATED (or add ones I left off - official only, no boots)...

I agree with 55 Rusty there is a Brazilian official copy out there I bought it last year,it does not if I remember rightly have copy protection on it so it copies real easy onto blank dvds

Thanks Bruce on the U2 INfO, that sounds great. I always thought the sound mix was a bit inferior to their other releases and pay per views so going to 5.1 they should be able the really clean it up. I forgot to mention that I do have the VHS tape but a "New, done right" DVD version and all those extras are something I'll be watching for.

on LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER, I have it on VHS but used to see the DVD on www.tower.com as some kind of official import.I just checked www.amazon.com and they have it for $79.99 BUT it looks like a fancy boot to me since the cover is a shot from the post Bill Wyman era. Looks like late 90's or something. I actually prefer the Hampton, Virginia Pay per view show but the copy I have is not exactly A+.

Happy Jack, yeah, I've been hearing for the past 3 years that a new, improved LET IT BE is coming out for Christmas shopping season (OCT, NOV, DEC) but it never happens - maybe 2006, we'll see.

Great list, MicksBrain. I hadn't thought about that Dylan 30th anniversary show in a while - I never saw the video but have the audio CD and it is fantastic. I'd love to see the footage that goes with it. Especially since you said some of them did two songs and there's only one each on the CD.

You're right about Vedder's performance of Masters of War, that's a highlight. Other highlights for me are Lou Reed doing Foot Of Pride and our very own Ronnie Wood tearing it up on Seven Days.

I had read about the Brazilian release of LSTNT. I live in Canada and have never seen it in any record store here.
What countries have people seen it?

Let It Be was scheduled for release on DVD in 2003/04 to tie in with Let It Be Naked. Not sure why it was dropped.
