One cannot exactly call the RS-stage a 'public place'. Have you ever seen these security-guys they have with them? I'm sure your body is kind of 'public' once you've tried to reach the stage.

smoking should be allowed at MacDonalds. Its the burgers they should ban!! Seriously tho, its all part of the victimization of society that is going on in Scotland. There is talk of limiting the number of drinks you can buy in the pub. Its the nanny state. Scotland has always produced quality politicians, but they all want to be on the national stage. Meanwhile the Scottish Parliament has a bunch of pygmies with a big chip on their shoulder. For Glasgow city council to say they are investigating the Keith Richards smoking thing may seem trivial - but its my tax money they are spending on this pointless exercise. Rock n roll is alive and well in Glasgow, but not in Holyrood!

Nicos, if I would not have spent so much time on this board, I would have graduated my study Architecture, of which Urbanity is a large part. But still, I do not have a clue of what Public Place/Space is.

Schouwburgplein, Rotterdam was designed to be one, and all the green area's between the Bijlmerflats were supposed to be public also... So I do not think 'we', as (almost) architects, have sorted this out.

I suppose that nowadays, the places where you have the feeling that you have to protect your private rights, are the places that are planned to be public...

Watch this space. Its New Labour s*ite. Its called flying a kite. They announce something unpopular, then in the face of outcry they deny thats what they meant. Meantime the public get "softened up" to it. And Bingo, a year later its on the statute. If you still enjoy a cigarette in your car - watch out. It will be outlawed. If they cant get you on the "Smoking in public places" thing, they will get you on "Its dangerous to smoke while driving". They stopped drinking in public, which may sound fine...but it means you can get busted for opening a bottle of wine in the park with your picnic!

Well it's not as bad as when Keith said, "I woke up with rosy cheeks. Took a look at my old lady and said, see you in about seven years babe."

No jury in the land would convict him!

Maybe Keith should be sentenced to 'sensitivity training' or some other PC nonesense.

The real reason? Glasgow City Council receive a cheque for fifty quid signed by his Satanic Majesty and either frame it to put on show in the City Chambers or auction it for sale on ebay.Sounds like MPJ is the mayor.

Woo Hoo
I did wonder if he would have a cig and I knew if he did he would end up in the news.

Well I was smoking on the pitch and no ones got me plastered all over the newspapers.

Infact a lot of people were smoking.

What I would like to know is who is the shit in the crowd that reported Him ??.

BTW Keith did not break the Scottish law by smoking on the stage as it was on the pitch.

The ban is for the stands and internal areas of the stadium only.

The stadium also should not be fined either as they made the non smoking rule on the pitch not the Scottish Executive.

I can't believe that officials would even bother with that!! They need headlines that desperately? Such a non-issue; just as Keith breathes, he smokes!

I was smoking there too. A6 block row 16. 3 "seats" next to the catwalk and to the security woman there. And some other people smoked in the same area.

Let's go in prison with Keith.

ROLL-UP STONE IS CLEARED
Keith won't face cig fine

By Steven Ventura
ROCKER Keith Richards won't be hit with a £50 fine for smoking a cigarette on stage at Hampden Park.

The Rolling Stones great lit up during the concert last Friday in front of 50,000 fans, in apparent defiance of Scotland's smoking ban.

But while council chiefs are investigating, the Record can reveal that outdoor sections of the stadium are NOT covered by the ban.

And Hampden's owners, who have their own smoking ban, won't be taking any action.

At the weekend, anti-smoking groups demanded that guitarist Richards, who has twice been charged with drugs offences, face a fine.

But an Executive spokesman said last night: "Football grounds are not governed by the law because they are not regarded as enclosed spaces."

Hampden bosses made the stadium a smoke-free zone in January. Fans flouting the rule face ejection if they refuse to stub out.

But it's understood the stadium's chiefs have no interest in taking the Richards case further.

Smokers' rights group FOREST Scotland said the decision saved the nation from more embarrassment caused by the anti-smoke laws.

Spokesman Neil Rafferty said: "It's a relief that Scotland won't be humiliated yet again.

"Keith Richards could have obviously afforded the £50, had he broken the rules. But thousands of Scots can't risk being hit with the penalty.

"The smoke ban has already been demonstrated as a farce after actor Mel Smith was affected as he portrayed Churchill at the Edinburgh Festival.

"These episodes continue to make Scotland look stupid."

Even when I'm outside smoking, if I notice someone at the table next to me who's not smoking I do always ask whether it'll bother them if I smoke.
But if they ask rudelly as they did in your case I'll start chain-smoking as if my life depended on that.

why smoke? It's a pointless exercise. The tobacco companies let you beleive that it is a nice pastime. Smokers have been hooked on something that is going to kill them eventually

If somebody says they like it, why? It tastes foul. It buggers up your lungs, you clothes smell, your hair, if you have any smells, your breath stinks. Sorry folks I don't get it.

Ask yourself the question and think really hard before you answer. Why do you smoke? Coz you generally look a bit of a twat if you smoke.

Keiths ok he looks cool....the rest of the human race doesn't. You know what who cares if he was smoking onstage.? It wasn't affecting me. What really annoys me is those arrogant/ignorant idiots who light up when I'm eating and don't even bother asking.
