10 years since Microsoft's start me up campaign

Today it's 10 years since "Start Me up" was licensed for use to promote Microsoft's new operation system Windows 95.

Found an interesting story about how Microsoft and The Stones negotiated about licensing out the song for the campaign.

Read part 1 of the story here:

So the campaign for Windows 95 was 10 years ago, in 1996?

The story is very interesting with the live version of SMU proposed at the beginning by the band to screw Wyman !

Here's the long version of the Windows 95 ad :

The inside story of the negotiations was interesting reading. On a related note, anyone remember that Pepsi ad that used Brown Sugar? I always liked that one.

What I remember most about that time is being very dissapointed that come the B2B tour a couple years later that SMU was still in the setlist. I did'nt really care so much that they had sold the song but somehow their artistic integrity suffered when it was not retired from live performance. In 1997 I had a bet with a buddy right before Columbus which was the 3rd B2B concert (and not having read about the Chicago setlists) that SMU would not be played. Obviously, I lost but we were in the 3rd row and it was such a great concert.
