btw - here's what some experts had to say about Mick's health before the show (of course medical specialists who never had a chane to talk to Mick not even mentioning taking medical care of his throat)

Medical Advisors Fear For Mick Jagger's Voice
When The Stones hit the UK on Sunday...

by Scott Colothan on 8/17/2006

Medical specialists have said that Mick Jagger may struggle to perform some songs when The Rolling Stones roll into the UK this weekend.

As previously reported, Jagger and the Stones had to cancel two shows in Spain after he was hit with laryngitis.

Speaking to 6music, Garfield Davis a voice specialist for the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine, said about Jagger being fit enough: "If he rests his voice there's a good chance but his performance should not be full power.

“He should be very careful in choosing the numbers which do not tax him quite as much as others."

Mr Davis also advised that Mick should avoid certain conditions: "Doctors would obviously suggest that Mick avoid smoky environments, that he avoid loud background noises like in noisy restaurants, not to talk on aeroplane flights which are very dry and to also be sensible about alcohol, not to overindulge. But the most important thing is to drink plenty of water."

The Rolling Stones UK leg of their Bigger Bang tour rolls into Twickenham on Sunday (August 20).

hah! and they did Midnight Rambler tonight!
Everybody say "YEEEEEEEAAH!!"

This show must be the best Stones gig I have ever been to. I went to several on VL, B2B and Licks. This is my first ABB show but it blew me away.

I would say that I would not change one single song in that set list. Sway, Ruby Tuesday, Streets of Love, Rambler are the obvious highlights. However, the not-so-obvious highlights were Tumbling Dice (played very well), Miss You, Sympathy (long and drawn out), Brown Sugar and, quite frankly, the whole show. It was a short set but very high in energy.

I'm going again on Tuesday so I hope they're as good again then.

I take back everything bad I have said about the Stones! (Not that I've said much bad things about them anyway.)

Depends whether you think it's disgraceful that a 57-year-old Twickenham resident and lifelong Stones fan has never before made it to a live gig! Anyway it won't be my last as I am also going Tuesday.

Stadium pretty nearly sold out as far as I could see - I was high up in the West stand near the stage which meant I had a rather off-to-one-side view and also rather off-to-one-side sound - loud but not very clear sometimes.

Great atmosphere in the stadium in spite of a pretty heavy shower of rain which soaked all the FOS people on the pitch but luckily stopped just before the Stones came on. We got a Mexican wave going for a while. And when Keith hit the first chords of JJF everybody in my section of the stand was instantly on their feet (in spite of the tickets sternly warning us that This Is An ALL SEATED event)

First surprise after reading all the setlists on here was Start Me Up as 2nd on the bill - but the real big cheer came when Mick started on Ruby Tuesday which everyone sang along with. They didn't seem to know Streets of Love as well as the Continental crowds and didn't sing along much although Mick put heart and soul into it. Nice to hear Sway but again I got the impression that not that many people knew it (Mick said "here's one we don't do very often - hope we can remember it")

You'll appreciate that I've got no previous experience by which to judge whether people were "on" or not, but Mick was certainly on form and I didn't even remember to notice whether his voice still had any trace of the laryngitis - he didn't seem to be holding back at all. Lovely long jam on Midnight Rambler with Mick on harp.

Mick says that "we should be at Wembley. Sorry we're not at Wembley! They should have it ready for the Arctic Monkeys' farewell tour..."

He introduces Keith as "Chief Headbanger".

Keith I thought seemed to be finding some of the show hard going - seemed to have a job getting started on one or two numbers although he was better once things were well under way. I've seen other comments on here about the guitars being fairly "down" in the sound mix and I think they were tonight - I was trying to hear Keith and could only do so occasionally.

Then the ride to the B-stage (this is a wonderful bit of theatrics, but does funny things to the sound, even right up in the stands) and Get Off My Cloud which again we all enjoyed shouting along with. Back to the main stage and a spectacular Sympathy for the Devil with all the effects - smoke, flames, red light, and everyone doing the Woo WOO's. By now most people in my area were on their feet and stayed there for the rest of the show.

No sign of Mick feeling ill - he was running the width of the stage to get both sides of the crowd clapping etc. But they did only do one encore - quite a long Satisfaction, but no YCAGWYW - perhaps they're saving it for Tuesday.

As a first-timer, I am duly bowled over by my first Live Stones. I can see that some of the weaknesses mentioned on this board may exist, but they're drops in the ocean compared with the pleasure this band can still produce - everyone I saw was smiling and I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone.

The sound was very echo laden tonight. The sound was better in 2003, but the mix and the show and everything else was better tonight. I was in pretty much the same position and I was in 2003 so I'm not sure why echos were such a problem tonight. Perhaps the new south stand has something to do with it.

Anyway, I disagree with Green Lady. I really can't see how anyone could find any real weaknesses with tonights show. Ronnie was on fire.

I do know what you mean about Keith being a bit slow though - at times he seemed to be struggling to keep going. Didn't matter though - Keef is Keef.

YCAGWYW would have been a lame duck after what preceded it. I was surprised but glad in a way because I think what we got tonight was just perfect.

Sounds like a great show. Over on Rocks Off they were talking about how well Ronnie played and how good Sway was. Sway, Ruby Tuesday, Rambler and Cloud, that's a pretty good setlist. Too bad there were only 19 songs, but that's probably due to Jagger's throat problems. And it sounds like the show may have run two hours as usual given that they played Rambler and Satisfaction was extra long.

SFTD seemed really long too. I wasn't counting seconds so it might just be that it was just really good!

what a show.. performance was great and all the stones were on fire.. Mick was singing great and no sign of illness.. only thing was longer gaps between each of the songs so he could drink lots of water.. not sure if they did this on other shows

Keith didn't even bother to play during Slipping Away but then we know that anyway.. only came in for the lead on the song but still did a great performance

Ronnie was on fire and they managed to breath new life into a few old songs too. didn't recognise Cloud at first until it got going

wish i was going on Tues

I would have to say that, for me, Ronnie Wood was 'man of the match' last night. Given all the controversy over his 'hesalth' issues in the press etc - the man was on fire and clearly enjoying every moment, was he out to prove something maybe....?

My first ever Stones gig at 17, it was amazing, Rambler the best of the night, and the first few seconds of JJF realy blew me away.

I've posted this link elsewhere, but it seems more appropriate here:

This is lazy journalism. I'm actually quite angry about this as it typifies the British Press lazy method of reviewing a show without even going to it. What's more, it is factually incorrect

I've been to quite a few stadium shows since last summer, in the US, in Japan and in Europe, and I have posted a few negative comments. I feared that Twickenham might be a disaster. 60% full, cold and rainy, Mick's voice shredded, Keith in a daze, and Ronnie mugging for the cameras while forgetting to play his solos. Well . . . The place was packed, after a brief shower at around 8:00 p.m., the night was beautiful, Mick sounded great (although he was careful to stay in a lower register on a number of tunes, most noticeably on Night Time), Keith played very well (the second solo on SFTD was great), and Ronnie, well, I didn't know that Ronnie still had it in him, but he was the highlight of this show. Ruby Tuesday, Sway, a smokin version of Rambler . . . . wow.

I was with my 15 year old daughter on the floor in the A1 block last night. It was her first Stones show, and she had a great time. Of course, growing up in my house, she's been listening to the Stones all her life. I took her to the B-Stage during BTMMR, and she was in a daze, standing on a chair about six seats from Chuck. Then, during GOMC, Keith tosses a pick in the air -- the wind lifts it up and drops in in the row right in front of us and I see her go over the back of the chair and retrieve it off the ground. Beautiful -- tongue logo on one side and "London 8-20-2006" on the other. She was absolutely thrilled. A great night for the Stones and for me personally.

do you expect changes in the setlist to night???

I think

As tears go by instead of ruby tuesday

Its only rockn roll instead of sway

Paint it black instead of cloud
