Could be the most pathetic list of all time.

Love! PLEASE

Plastic Ono/Lennon - CRAP

Miles davis - most overrated drivel ever

Velvet Underground - WTF!! If it's SOOOOOOOOO good how come like 10 people bought it?!!!

Dusty Sporinfield!!!!!!!!!!! - WTF! WTF! This list must be from the U since she is so big over there (for some reason)

So this drivel ( and a lot more on this list) are better than: Aftermath!?? Some Girls! BEGGARS BANQUEST - perhaps the GREATEST!!!???

Always amazes me the reaction these lists get!

Each to their own.....

Re: 100 Greatest Albums Of All Time

the criteria for that top 100 list is all wrong.

some bands are allowed best of hits albums and others are not.

surely a decent compilation stones album such as rolled gold would leave all the others standing.

Nevertheless; the very making of them gives air
of some weird kind of "scientificness". That's what
p*sses me off.

It is SO difficult to be an adult.

Since it's supposed to be the "Greatest of All Time", how can one be expected to know about great albums that haven't been made yet? It just doesn't seem fair.

I agree. It's completely and utterly subjective. Especially without listing criteria for making the selections.

i would rate this list somewhere around #58 in a list of the "100 Greatest Generic Arbitrary Lists of the 100 Greatest Albums Of All Time."
__ ___ ___

...however...i personally would rate the list itself easily in Top 20 of
"Lists With Most Obvious Omissions And Screwed Up Numerical Placements"
then again, it pleased the advertisers, spread things around; these kinds of things (tho sometimes fun in a more comprehensive list with intelligent annotation) often pop up in a magazine when they don't have anything to really write about?

That must be a list compiled by one person, NOT stats gathered from a poll; that's my guess! I am pleasantly surprised to see BLUE by Joni Mitchell but TOMMY at 97, NO WAY! That should be in the top ten for sure. I think EXILE should be where it is, and yes, get rid of Miles Davis and put in Ya Ya's or Aftermath. I happen to be a big Beatles fan so I don't begrudge them their listings. Certainly should have Cream on there. I'll have to look again to see if the Kinks were in there or any Clapton or Aerosmith.

P.S. ok take out Coltrane, Billy Joel, Allman Bros, Capt Beefheart, and Sinatra and ADD Cream, maybe Disraeli Gears, Layla, Aerosmith's first lp and maybe even Toys IN THe Attic or Pump, also add the Kinks( pick 2) and move Tommy up from 96 to 10. Add Aftermath to the top 25 and Goat's Head Soup, and Steel Wheels or Green Grass and High Tide.

Just popped by to see what was up - hope all of you are well. Since I can't resist a little list-bashing, and since I just made these lists, I figured I'd point y'all to them. These are the 120 items I think everybody should have. Please note, there are NO Beatles records on here. So there.

Classic. LOL cosmo, dig the Ann Peebles and OV Wright inclusions, and the PE. Wickit man!

Some great music on these lists, cosmoprim. Arkology by Lee Perry/Various Artists should have been nr 1, though!

Did they list Catch A Fire by the Wailers?

I also would like to see Bush Doctor up there.

Glad y'all are digging the lists.
SOHOE - couldn't possibly leave off the Possum, love that bastard.
KSIE - I was always baffled that Serge could pull such high-grade skirt. BB was #1 by a mile in her day.
Turner - they're in no specific order (because the order changes daily), they're just in "classes". Arkology could certainly be #1, hard to beat Scratch.
Gazza - thanks for the kudos, all is indeed well. Always happy to stop in for a visit.

Totally agree Baboon Bro The Wailers Catch A Fire is an album I've played endlessly. As for people calling Miles Davis music drivel??? Well I just don't get that, Kind Of Blue and In A Silent Way are 2 of my all time favourite albums. Still everyone to their own.

Kind of Blue and Love Supreme are two of the greatest records of all time in any genre.

Not a Bad list IMO. Everybody's list will different as it should be.Same as the list of best 100 movies etc. All opinions are valid.

I counted and I own 86 of the albums on the list and the top ten look like pretty darn good albums to me. I'd probably remove the Clash, move up Marvin Gaye, and add Axis Bold as Love. LOL!

That Sinatra album at 100 is good too, but I prefer "Songs for Swinging Lovers"
Sintara is some of the greatest stoner music there is!

My other complaint would be no Billie Holiday or Grateful Dead.

Sinatra another big influence on some of our "icons" Just ask Keith...Charlie...how they learned about arrangements.

"Swinging Lovers" would be in my Top Ten. And re deathbed, forgot to mention FS...

I don't think there should be Greatest hits or compliation albums on a top 100 list. But if we are accepting compliations, then THe Harder they Come should be there. Keep Miles "Kind of Blue"-one of the best.

Yeah, L.A Women is The Doors "Exile". Specially the title track,WOW! Thats what I call "one for the road"

There are tons of these lists floating around out there. This looks like the first 100 of the 500 greatest albums by Rolling Stone magazine. I think it is also a hardcover book with pictures and write ups of the individual albums. On that list the Stones are tied for second with Dylan, both having 9 albums- behind The Beatles.

Of course it is subjective to the people voting but some things I noticed as being bizzare;

1) Can't believe there are that many albums ahead of Sticky Fingers- I would put it in the top twenty.

2) Billy Joel is represented by The Stranger not Glass Houses which I thought was his best.

3) While Exile is almost always the highest ranked Stones albums on these types of lists, it's funny how the other three big ones get shuffled around. Some think LIB is best, some Sticky and some BB. Maybe because they are so close as far as quality.

According to Keno's site, Exile just made the top 10 of Stones albums. As we all know, all these "best" lists have huge holes in them.
