Future Stones Projects?

Hi all,
I know alot of people are feeling a bit down about the prospect of there being no more 'full-on' Stones tours, but- for me at least there have been enough of these. I mean they're only human & they can't defy the on-set of old-age & the subsequent deterioration in their ability to perform well.
BUT- if they continue as a 'working' band, this opens up more possibilities IMO.
They could release a good few albums already, if they followed the 'Tattoo You' example- ie: pull some of the (many) unreleased tracks or unfinished material down 'off the shelf' & finish it.
Just for starters, the band said that they recorded approx 24 tracks in Paris before the 'Forty Licks' tour, with the intention of releasing a new album in 2002. They didn't get the opportunity to finish this because of their tour commitments.
As we've only had 2 new studio albums in the last 10 years, I would find this prospect FAR more exciting than them just 'cranking out' the hits live. Any thoughts?

Great idea, Doolittle.

And what about a "roots" album with blues and soul covers from the 40ies, 50ies, 60ies... And many more good studio stuff.

I'd always hankered for something like that too.
I'd love an album of RnR and Blues covers...I'd be very interesting to hear the stuff on the first couple of albums recut in the studio with the band's current sound and style wouldn't it

A new album would be great. But my dream, which I never think will be reality, is this: They make a CD. One of new material (10 songs), one of blues, rnr, soul covers (10 songs too), one of live cd with the entire two cds performed.

I've always thought that an interesting project would be to use antiquated equipment to create your sound. There's one band in particular, The Greenhornes, whom I've heard do this. They're a modern group, but several of their sounds seem as though they were recorded in 1965, and I like to think that I've got a very good ear.

If the Stones were able to do this (for at least a few numbers) and I'm sure they'd have access to the equipment, it would make for a very interesting album. "The new Stones on classic equipment."

But in terms of a new outing, I'd say that a throwback to a particular era (whether it be covers or songs emulating that particular era) would be interesting.

Something completely different from what has been done before. Something in the vein of Stripped 2, but not completely so.

The White Stripes' Elephant is also done on old instruments. The recording too. Just ask Potted Shrimp.

After seeing the Tom Waits thread, I was thinking a whole album with Tom and Keith would be great, they should get a hot band, maybe Ribot,Bootsy and Steve Jordan, go down to New Orleans and get funky.........

I'd love 4 or recordings Stripped. Instead of like a 4 flicks, doing like a Stripped by the decades. 60's Stripped, 70's 80's(Emotional Rescue - SW) & 90-current(voodoo - ABcool smiley.Playing some known tunes for the masses & all the others thier true fans have been dying for. But no duplicates from Stripped already

These are off top of My head not exact setlists/ orders etc just idea. It would bring a whole new light to newer songs esp of those not liking the sleek modern production of recent sound but stripped down. Some of these may take a whole new identity. The older songs many would just love to hear. Stripped by the decades or even a Stripped Blues. This is what they should do for their fans. Would be amazing. Perhaps some I put on list, may not go over well in Stripped setting, but you get the general idea. I know it'll never happen but this is what the boys need. I really believe the young folks of today would respond to this esp if shot 4-5 club dvd format unplugged sreies type thing. May bring in new fans certaintly make hardcores happy (which they could really use right now with the low morale). Works for everyone except maybe The Stones as A lot of work rehersals for stuff never or seldom played. "I know they don't need to", "let them play what they want theyv'e earned it", "Stop bitching" "if you don't like em don't buy or see them". I know all that I love them totally actually. Its just a pipedream idea for Chuck. Maybe an inner sanctum member reads this, brings it up & they go for it. The Mez gets rewarded with front row seats to all 5 gigs shot as a token of their appreciation for the idea.Or I can win Lotto. I might rather have the first come to fruition. Ay dreams MEz

I'd love to hear them bringing back their country / folk / rockabilly / reggae stylings on their next album of new material, since they unfortunately left this part of their soundscape off of their ABB album.

Can somebody please point Chuck towards this thread? Tell him he will get to play a boogie woogie piano solo on the next record if he looks at it ;-)

I agree completely. Given a choice between more greatest hits tour and some worthwhile studio albums, I would gladly choose the studio albums.

Another album that is as good or better than A Bigger Bang is all I ask of them. Plus possibly a 'Vaults' box set or something later on.

I think many of us would like Keith to record and release some that solo stuff that he doesn't have time to do or he thinks people don't want to hear. WE DO !

Depends how much Keith is up to write new music and if his music is Stones style anymore (thinking about his reagge things)....

Hate to cut Ronnie and Charlie out the loop, but Id love to hear a totally acoustic thing with mick and Keith. Just Mick singing and Keith on acoustic, with both sharing back up vox. Just a thought!

Some great ideas in this thread! I personally could do without ABB-style tours. It would be great to see the Stones concentrate on putting out some new studio albums. Let them regain their title as one of the greatest rythym 'n blues bands of all time and release some stuff that doesn't aime at the regular pop charts. No singles, no videos, just great roots music. As a band or solo for that matter...

Eric, television gold is just a cheezy show-biz expression. it just means it would be really good.
