Michael Jackson ----gotta be #1, he's a second soprano (voice equality of christina augilera!!) Stevie Wonder Robert Plant Mick Jagger Freddy Mercury David Bowie Ray Charles
Honerable Mentions: Axel Rose, Jim Morrisson, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Prince...........and mabye Bono, what do you think?
I think Bob Marley beats everyone listed in this thread (except for Mick and maybe Rod Stewart). Those people are good for maybe one or two songs, but they have no variety or depth, really. Micheal Jackson sings like a girl...always. Freddy Mercury sings like a cabaret singer...always. Axel Rose can't sing at all. Paul McCartney really, has been singing the same song for 30+ years- just different lyrics. Robert Plant just plain screams...all the time.
Bob Marley and Mick Jagger sing the song, not the "type" of music. Am I making sense?

Not to me. I like Bob Marley, but have you ever listened to people like Sam Cooke? Bob Marley sings reggae and does it like no-one else. But compared to people like Sam Cooke or Michael Jackson (who has a high voice, but he doesn't sound like a girl... there's a huge difference there) he's just some singer. You obviously haven't listened to the artists you mentioned. Mercury is known for his 'cabaret'-style singing, so you assume he does it all the time: not at all! Same goes for Plant, Jackson, McCartney,...
Sam Cooke at the Harlem Square club: buy it, listen to it and we'll speak again.

yeah, despite michael jackson's high voice when singing, and soft voice when talking, its not really a girl ...my 9 year old cousin thought it was a girl when he heard billie jean, but he has an untrained ear

Well, maybe I overshot a bit. I was trying to say how much I like Mick's versatility and the way he seamlessly sinks into any style of music like second nature- whether it's blues, disco, reggae, jazz, punk, or straight up rock and roll.
Anyhow, I think the best sing of ALL TIME is hands down Mr. Tony Bennet. I want all of you to go listen to Mood Indigo right now. It's my favorite song ever.
Mick Jagger Stevie Tyler Robert Plant Rod Stewart Paul McCartney John Lennon Roger Daltry Don Henley Chuck Negron Elton John David Bowie Alex Chilton Smokie Robinson Otis Redding Jim Morrison James Taylor Paul Rogers Eric Clapton Ray Davies Ok, these are my favorite male rock, /folk rock voices!
I purposely did not read other's list but after I posted I went back to look! I can't believe I left out Bryan Ferry and Van morrison, great picks! Did no one say Elvis??? He was a great vocalist!! You may not love the tunes but he had the pipes! Yes, Marvin Gaye too, way too short a career!
