HUGE STONES BOX SET ON IT'S WAY
The Rolling Stones have given Virgin Records a go to release a huge cd box set
in connection with their 40th anniversary.
According to the web site www.collect.com Virgin Records have been given the rights to all recorded music by the stones after 1970, both studio and live. The official list of the material sendt Virgin is to begin with complete from 1970 untill 1979. The list reveals that there is enough material for 50 cd's.
It is of course, not of current interest to release absolutely everything, so Virgin is now working on picking out what the box will contain, from a total of nine studio visits and 42 conserts. (Lucky bastards!)
UNRELEASED LP FROM 1972
There are greate expectations for the concert material. Seven of the concert recordings from 1972 were done for a double live album which was supposed to be released the same year. The release of the album was stopped by the band's former record company, and the album have therefore been collecting dust ever since.
Now we might be able, for the first time, to hear the entire album. If it gets released, it will be the best Rolling Stones live album ever. The band smokes while plaughing through phenomenal versions of songs from '68-'72 during their Philadelphia and Pittsburg performances.
EL MOCAMBO
There are also great expectations to the recordings done at the little club "EL MOCAMBO" in Toronto, 4th and 5th of mars 1977. Four of the songs were released on LOVE YOU LIVE, and many claim that these songs are the best part of the album.
Though the coolest recordings from the two conserts never came out, including songs such as "Route 66", "Dance Little Sister", "All Down The Line" and "Crazy Mama", even though the songs were finished mixed, and ready for a release.
There is also speculations about Memphis june 1978, where the band did "Hound Dog", and the Oshawa gig in april the 22nd, that Keith was convicted in court to do for the blind people.
STUDIO PEARLS
It is likely to believe that the box will include somewhat around 20 new songs recorded in studio. There is not much material from the two first records (Sticky and Exile), but from around the mid seventies it's getting more and more. They made versions of soul tunes as "Drift Away", and blues classics as Sweet Home Chicago. The band also have songs that should have made an release earlier due to its quality, ie "Claudine" that unaccountably missed Emotional Rescue.
There are also some charming instrumentals, and some country tunes sung by Keith. All in all, there should be enough to get every Stones fan in extacy!
