Heard Bob and his band perform Brown Sugar three nights at the Wiltern in Los Angeles in October 2002. He was also doing covers of songs by Warren Zevon, Van Morrison and Don Henley on this tour. Brown Sugar was a treat . . . the band backing Dylan at the time was great.

I love Dylan's version of Zevon's Mutineer and Accidentally Like A Martyr.

mick said that when he sang LARS with dylan in europe, it was like 2 different songs... also back in the 60s dylan once said, i could have written satisfaction, but they couldn't have written like a rolling stone... mick said that may be true, but i'd to hear dylan sing satisfaction...

Charlie Sexton on the 2002 Brown Sugar? No wonder I liked it so much.

Beelyboy nailed it -- Bobby D COULD recite the phone book and make it sound compelling LOL.

Back to Charlie Sexton for a moment, I have his "Under the Wishing Tree" CD (MCA 1995) -- very cool. Lots of texture and atmosphere, and a bit of heavy rock.

if I was mick, I would move keith to piano, fire wood, and bring in mick taylor and charlie sexton, that would solve a lot of problems.

Just remembered that after hearing Dylan perform Brown Sugar at three performances at the Wiltern in L.A., the Stones themselves performed Brown Sugar at the very same theater. What a treat that was.

The Fall '02 (Oct & Nov) Bob tour was interesting for a number of reasons. Bob put down his guitars in favor of playing piano. It was the last swing for guitarist Charlie Sexton, who along with Larry Campbell formed a potent combo. And Bob played a number of covers which are mentioned above. Brown Sugar did smoke. The mentioned guitar players had no problem making the song move. But it was Bob's casual singing of the lyrics that made me wonder. He made no attempt at completing the verses or getting the words right. It was as if he was trying to demonstrate that he could play a successful version of the song with an indifferent flip of the wrist.

Yeah, The band is so on top of it, with surgical precision, then you've got Bob, gotta love him, crooning the words when he wants and what he wants....that's classic Bob.

Y'all have a nice day.
