Kiss shouldn't be on that list, nor, IMO should Alice Cooper. Both of those artists are one-trick ponies. No subtlety.

Alice Cooper is not a one-trick pony my friend....

...And Please, How does Aerosmith get up there above, oh I dunno..."Arthur" or "Muswell Hillbillies" by The Kinks, or "Who's Next," or f=cking "Let It Bleed," or "Achtung Baby," or...where's "The White Album" and "Revolver?"

Fine, but tell me he's more influential/had better albums than The Band, David Bowie, U2, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, CCR, Neil Young, etc...

kiss shouldnt be on the list??? Just so you know, they outsold the Stones and the Beatles in the 70's for album sales. They have over 25, Gold albums. Now, i dont think Destroyer should be on there, but i do think Kiss Alive should be on there.

err . . . how is that pertinent at all? so then i suppose the Eagles Greatest Hits it the greatest album of time? (i was writing that with sarcasm, but i still couldn't help but vomit a bit as i typed out those horrible words) and mariah carey, by your logic, would be a "greater" musician than the stones . . .

Oh my god...for once the Stones are no.1

Nothing against Kiss and Alice Cooper but they are second-tier acts and do not belong here.

Who's Next and Live At Leeds are better albums than Tommy.

Joshua Tree, London Calling and Physical Graffiti ought to be on the list.

Interesting to see Aerosmith climb the critical mountaintop, can't really disagree.

Exile and Some Girls are the two I would have picked as well.

A big giant IMO for all of the above.

Why don't you go listen to Killer, Billion Dollar Babies and Welcome To My Nightmare....

Kiss and Alice Cooper - second tier artists?? You need your head examined. Stop being so precious. Deuce is as good a song as the Stones ever wrote in my opinion, and as for Cooper - he never put a foot wrong through the 70s and early 80s. Listen to Generation Landslide and tell me Alice is second tier.

We need Bowie's Heroes and London Calling in there. Away with Aerosmith and Kiss. Not bashing Led Zeppeling, but Elvis can have their seat.

If there was to be an Alice album on the list, I'd pick Billion Dollar Babies or Killer over Nightmare.
I think Rocks is the best 70's Aerosmith album but I'm not sure if it would be on the greatest of all time list.
No albums post 1978!
Where's Back In Black or Van Halen 1?

very bizarre. the who have 3 albums better than tommy (who's next, leeds, quad). kiss does not belong in any top 25 greatest albums of all time, or whatever, they were a live act who never made their necessary studio masterpiece to be taken seriously. agree with the comments about alice, Killer and BBB are his masterpieces, and those never get the respect they're due. aerosmith's Rocks is definitely deserving. but for once, the stones top an album list! it's about time...

another bizarro list for us to discuss. but Welcome to my nightmare, Destroyer, and Tommy? alrightee then.....

Boy I've don this (here) before but as an obsessive compulsive I do love lists...as usual, there might be more than one title per artist in real life but in the spirit of fitting as many great ones in there...
1 Stones, 'Exile' (and many others)
2 Miles Davis - 'On The Corner' (and Sketches Of Spain' and a dozen others)
3 Faces, 'Ooh La La' (the box, too, and the gold disc of 'Nod')
and: Rod Stewart, 'Gasoline Alley'
4 Jimi Hendrix Experience - 'Axis: Bold As Love' & Electric Ladyland' (& First Rays)
5 Sly & The Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin On' (& Stand, Fresh, etc)
6 Bob Dylan/The Band - Basement Tapes
7 Brian Jones Presents The Pipes Of Pan At Joujouka
8 Nirvana, 'Unplugged'
8 Byrds, 'Fifth Dimension' (expanded cd)
9 Howlin' Wolf - 'Real Folk Blues/More Real Folk Blues' (cd), 'Memphis Recordings' or the box
10 Bo Diddley - Chess Box
11 Captain Beefheart - 'Lick My Decals Off, Baby,' & 'Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)
11 Jeffersion Airplane - 'Crown Of Creation' & 'Bless Its Pointed Little Head'
12 Public Image Ltd. - 'Metal Box'
13 Don Covay - 'Mercy!/See Saw' (2-fer cd)
14 Sam & Dave - Double Dynamite
15 Otis Redding - 'Dictionary Of Soul' & 'Soul Album' (Sundazed vinyl)
16 Meters - 'Look-Ka Py Py' (and 'Rejuvenation', Struttin', etc)
17 Lee Dorsey - The New Lee Dorsey' & 'Yes We Can Can...and More'('93 cd edition)
18 Jeff Beck Group - 'Beck Ola'
19 Aretha Franklin - 'Arrives', 'Spirit In The Dark'
20 Stooges - 'Funhouse' & 'Raw Power'
How Can I Stop? Creedence, NY Dolls, Love (first 3), Lennon's POB, Al Green 'Call Me', Wailers' first 3 on Island, Neil Young 'Time Fades Away' 'On the Beach', Roxy Music Stranded & For Your Pleasure, Curtis Mayfield's Chicago Soul comp, Ron Wood 'Now Look' & Not for Beginners, James Brown (?), Velvet Underground (studio & '69 Live), X-Ray Spex, and too many others to think of!

Let It Bleed is definitely better than Some Girls.

I love Some Girls and I don't mean to bash it, but can stuff like Miss You and Respectable really compare with Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler?

Oh well. At least Stones made the list twice and at # 1!

No list in complete without Swordfishtrombones.

Everyone knows that Kiss album should be replaced by any Metallica album. It's common sense, really. I mean...Kiss? Give me a @#$%& break.

Great. Another list. :-D
Exile is correct.
Tommy should be replaced by Who's Next.
Sgt. Pepper out, and The White Album in.
Honkin' On Bobo instead of Rocks by Aerosmith.
Kiss and Alice Cooper should not be on there.
Zep is OK.
Some Girls replaced by Sticky Fingers.
Only one Dylan record on there....
That's how it should be if the list was any good.

It`s completly impossible to make such list, but it`s always interesting. I wanna put In Court Of King Crimson and Appettite For destruction on the list. Then suddenly I think about other albums like Harvest, Born To Run, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Siamese Dreams and lots of others. My number one will always be Sticky Fingers.

Re: OT-Greatest Albums List

It's obviously a US list as Kiss or Aerosmith rarely if ever feature on such lists in the UK press.

As always it's just opinion and therefore irrelevant. It's doesn't make these albums any better than the last list which had OK Computer by Radiohead at the top.

Yawn.
