It was Keith who MADE the song on the 89-90 tours and it's Keith who ruins it for me today. Jagger is still fantastic, Ronnie still plays his part, but Keith really needs to work on his solos. I actually really like the Bridges To Babylon tour versions I've heard. Keith’s guitar work is minimalist in comparison to previous tours, but it precise and biting. Today it's just a bended note here and there. I'd actually go as far to describe it as terrible playing.

until further notice, i'm subscribing to the theory that it's not that the number doesn't move Keith anymore -
just that the current arrangement of it bugs him.
(was anyone here at the US show - i forget which it was - when Charlie had to leave the stage
to stop Keith from slitting the throat of the techie responsible for whatever was going wrong with the percussion loop?)

Can anyone post the solo from one of the recent European gigs?

it's not just in Europe that Keith's been taking that ummm Minimalist Approach to SFTD at some shows -
he does something like that on a couple of the DVDs i've seen from earlier legs of the tour as well.
it must be in Vienna where i saw him do the Minimalist Bit; but then in Berlin he went and got it mighty fine.

Which guitar did Keith use for SFTD in 1975/76?

If it´s the 72 Tele Custom,Keith will never play a bad version of SFTD anymore!*s*

He didn't use a guitar when Eric Clapton or Santana joined in 75.

Isnt the main problem that the song needs a new approach? They used to treat their oldies without Micks silk gloves in the 70s and 80s.
