Someone asked this very question back in January or February. Was that you DCChris? Got lots of funny responses. In the end I think the answer was that he had retired.

I'm sure I didn't see him in the crew (from my seat I could see the whole crew around the stage as the gig was in a small open air amphitheatre).
Moreover, at the end of the gig, people stepped twice onstage in a way that JC and his staff would NOT (...) have allowed ...

Lukester, thanks for posting that link. I was able to figure out JC is:

Anybody who have been stalking the Stones over the years knows JC. He was always just JC. On badges. Among fans. When talking. When looking for a backstage pass. Or access to rehearsals. He was head of security up to and including the first few shows in Europe summer 2003. And he was always on the back door, where you were stalking (me, no, but I wasn't far away. Yes. ok. quite close).
On April 6, 2003 - while the Stones were touring India - he got a heart attack, see iorr news:
Jim Callaghan rushed to hospital in India The Rolling Stones head of Security, Mr. Jim Callaghan, also known as JC, suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday April 6 during the band stay in Mumbai. Luckily the band medical acted fast, and rushed JC to the hospital. He is now said to be in a stable condition. Jim Callaghan has been in charge of the Rolling Stones security since the 70's, and is a true English gentleman, the perfect friend of any fan, always being able to sort out the bad guys from the real fans. We do all bring our best wishes for his soon recovery. See Mid-Day Multimedia.

I don't think I ever ran into that guy in my "stalking" of the Stones. I have ran into John Sampson and Jerry Meltzer, who also both work for U2, when I have tried and got Stones autographs, but don't ever remember this JC guy. John Sampson is the most fan friendly security guard I have ever encountered. I can't picture JC being as cool as John, but maybe he was.

We need someone who speaks this guy's language. Paging rooster ...

That would be "Persona Non Grata" to be correct...
How does everyone know of JC? Based on what Bjornulf wrote about him, I can picture some fans coming into contact with him, but a very small percentage of them hang out at the hotels and venues hoping to meet the Stones. I don't understand why this guy seems to be so well known.
