But why be guilty if it's music you like? Like - I don't like classic - still don't - and got a bit of a shock when I first read in an interview that Keef listened to Bach and Mozart!!

..of course he does...I'm the ignorant here...'cause I'm sure there is a lot to be had..if I only knew how ;-)

I don't care who you ask, those do NOT count. That music is gold.

Oh and my choice would have to be John Denver.

Always a spot for The Mamas and Papas. John Philips waas truly a genius who wrote great songs with great melodies and harmonies.

Must also confess to a liking of much of the late 60's bubble-gum...Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Monkees even! (ducking)

"Guilty" pleasures are usually defined by what was once popular and now is out of fashion, or was popular but uncool even when it was new.

Usually when something is 10 years old or so it becomes really hated.

I've been around long enough to see things come and go, in and out of fashion,

And then back in again.

Not so many years ago it was common to ridicule Burt Bacharach. (Check out the use of a muzak version of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" in Caddyshack) A few years went by and Burt did a cameo in an Austin Powers film, a box set came out, and now he's a hero. (Check out the use of the same song in Spider Man II)

Young people don't carry around all the old baggage of what they were wearing, who they were dating, or which band is considered cool or not. So they go for good.

Good will always be good.

And today's guilty pleasure could be tomorrow's hip re-discovery.

My personal "guilty" pleasure (and I don't really like the term, because I feel no guilt about it) is The Fifth Dimension. Love 'em. Even saw them live once when the original five did a reunion tour. They had great material (LAURA NYRO!!) and made some great records.

Hey Shawn! Did you go see that movie a couple months ago where Shirley Jones hooked up with a college kid?

no such thing as guilty pleasure listening...
why feel guilt for something that brings innocent pleasure and happiness?

I see what you're trying to say, but if people admitted to listening to music only for pleasure and happiness, then they wouldn't have any leverage when bashing pop-tarts and their ilk in favor of more 'serious' music.
