Ehm ... it's quite embarassing, the good ol' "It's good to be here, it's good to be anywhere".

I mean, last year I saw Motley Crue twice in three days and they said the very same jokes each show, in the very same order. Sad.
I believe Keith is a much more intelligent person and I thought that maybe he could say something more personal after 4 years since he started using that line.

i just don't get it because at times (buenos aires 2-21-06) you can see he is visibly moved and overcome with emotion..but he always trots out the same line...

although maybe, if there ever was a time to use that line was last night in milan as by all accounts he could have died only recently!

it is ironic because i think of him as always having the right thing to say off-stage! ever read "keith richards: in his own words"?

I think he is Shy esp when faced with 1000s of people.

maxx nailed it.

KR is actually quite shy.
He'll talk happily and very eloquently for hours in a situation that involves a normal conversation,[witness many of the better interviews he's given over the years] but he's quite embarrassed by much of the "big star" paraphernalia and the stupid questions that he's expected to reply to on occasion. Like a lot of essentially shy folks he's often lost for ready words in any emotional situation too.
That said, I kind of think that he trots out the old Max Miller line every day because he now thinks folks expect it of him.

Keith Shy???

Those two words don't go together, he's anything but shy when things aren't going as planned onstage!!! He's the last person you would want to be on the
receiving end of his triade if there are technical problems, etc.

He said it himself: You don't want to be at Loggerheads with me!!!!

I don't think the rehearsals were long enough for him to prepare a new line....

LOL at Tod.

MLC, there are different kinds of "shy".

He's just not comfortable talking complete bollocks to folks he doesn't know...whether there are 2 or 20,000 of 'em.
Mick, on the other hand, is very comfortable with it.[which isn't a criticism, it's a part of his great talent as a front man and entertainer.]

correct on both counts. Despite his shyness he does come out with some good one-liners at times, though. The one at the press conference about Johnny Depp buying him all those lunches was pretty good.

Keith: "allright, on with the show", "I got a show to do" , "it's good to be here, it's good to be anywhere"...

Mick: Are you feeling good? A-R-E Y-O-U F-E-E-L-I-N-G G-O-O-D? And in the language of the country they are playing: "it's good to be in....."

Ronnie: "bring me another Guinness"

Charie: "when does this tour finally ends?"

Why don't tell the whole story?

*He said some words in italian.
*He congratulated the italians with the world cup victory.
*He said "I have missed you, bless you all" to the crowd.
*He also introduced his first song like this; "I gotta do this one before they make me run"
*And of course "It's good to be hear, it's good be anywhere."

I read your review dunhill, I'm sorry you did not have the ultimate Stones experience. But I did have, and Keith was in great shape - he smiled all night. Of course they make mistakes, but the enthusiasm and the energy is just adorable. In Milan, they were the greatest rock'n'roll band for sure. At least they gave everything to prove it. I mean, Mick did learn the entire italian lyrics for As Tears Go By. They was ready to kick off the european leg with a bang, and they did.

If you read my review, concerning As tears go by I wrote:

I was really impressed by Con le mie lacrime così, Mick's a true entertainer, he trooped through the song even though 65.000 people were laughing their asses off, Keith included.

If that is not giving kudos to him I don't know what it is.
Concerning what Keith said it made a bit sad hearing that he uses the very same line as if he were a SuperHero.
Wait a minute, he is a super hero.

I stole his line at a business presentation the other day. Credit given to good ol' Keith, of course!

It is not true that he said only the same old line. Before his set he said something like: "Everything is cool. It's good to be here in Milano. " (something more, I think)
Then after his set (or between the 2 songs) he of course had to ad: "It's good to be here, it's good to be anywhere."
