It really wasn't though.Apart from the obvious Exile songs which made up a large percentage of the show,YCAGWYW wasn't performed on the '69 tour. The same goes for Bye Bye Johnnie and Bitch as well.Gimme Shelter was only played at six 1969 shows,Brown Sugar only at Altamont.I only see four songs from that show which were a regular part of the '69 tour. This guy was probably disappointed that some other songs were not played. The shows could have been a little longer.

Indianapolis 07/12/72 is brilliant. The shows between 07/04/72 (Washington) and 07/15/72 (Toronto) are the best concerts they ever played. The Detroit shows (07/13 and 07/14) are said to have been the highlight of the entire tour, unfortunately there are no recordings, yet.

My favorite MSG show is 07/25/72 evening. 07/26/72 comes close but 07/25 is a tad more energetic and fired up. Still, the MSG concerts are not as good as the above mentioned.
The three Philly shows are good good but the band sounds exhausted.

Hopefully, the 07/09/72 St. Louis recording which has been discussed here earlier this year will see the light of the day soon.

The colossally overrated Brussels´73 pales in comparison to these ´72 shows.

To the Menace: you have always been a Megafan of the 72 tour and I agree w/you that that stretch of shows was the high point. Even better than the Texas sojourn. In the first post ypou mention making up a small box set w/ artwork. I think I have all those shows, but I would LOVE a set like you mention. Are you going to make a few extra? And if so can I talk you out of one?

I haven't heard the Knoxville and Toronto shows, but I totally agree. By the time Stones hit Europe they seemed to have cooled off. They were still "well oiled", but IMO the energy wasn't on top level anymore.
The Brussels shows, London and a couple of other cities really had some golden moments, but over all, the shows in Europe never reached the warm feel of summer 1972. It must be the greatest tour ever in rock'n roll history! It should have been just as well documented musically, as the great internet site about the tour mentioned earlyer in this thread. By the way, speaking of the show from St. Louis, it was supposed to be containing Stevie Wonder as well!

I agree with the general consensus here, especially about the Brussels 73 comparison. The only 73 show I've heard I could put on the same "level of liking" for me would be London 9/9/73: this one I could put in the same level as the ones from the previous year. I must admit I haven't heard Norfolk nor Washington DC ([Commercial Mode ON] If anyone is willing to trade them, well, it would be OK, LOL! [Commercial Mode OFF])

People tend to like the shows with the better sound quality, but should Charlotte or Knoxville have the same sound quality as Brussels, one of these should top every fan favourite boots list.

I have a few of the shows that have been mentioned, but I don't know if I have the best version of them on cd. For example, I have Dripping Honey (Charlotte/Knoxville shows). Is this the best version of these 2 shows?

What are the best versions of:

Washington DC
Norfolk
Pittsburgh

Please weigh in with your opinions.

It's tough to be 100% sure of what you have if you have cdr's.

Drippin' Honey is the best cd release of those two shows. There is said to be a better lp.

Washington D.C. : Jack Daniels On Tour

Norfolk : Going Back To The Roots VGP label (with Indianapolis) or Going Back To The Roots - American Tour July 1972 - GBTM 72001

Pittsburgh (not completely sure on this one) : The Royal Dragon which is a remastered version of An American Affair

Big call ! I disagree, Brussels 1st show is brilliant.

What EVERYONE seems to miss are the Aussie '73 shows!!!
Why does everyone always discuss the US 72 Tour versus the Europe '73 Tour when comparing the great concerts???

The Aussie '73 Tour is brilliant and BETTER than the US 1972 Tour.
I think the US '72 Tour is WAY over-hyped. A great Tour yes, but people seem obsessed with this Tour for some reason....can someone explain??

I don't agree either about Brussels or London 73 being overrated. It can't be overrated, 'cos it's as good as music can be. Of course, the July 72 shows are in the same category. Why does everyone want ONE winner of these boots/shows?
