As a wrote above, I am going to meet lots of friends at a place called Smooth, a cocktail bar in via Buonarroti 15. The place is close to the metro station (wagner) and is walking distance (100 m.) from the Piazza Piemonte tram stop. Tram is by far the best way to go to and from the stadium (approx 15. minutes).

IMPORTANT

ON JULY 11 ALL TAXIS WILL BE ON STRIKE (UNLESS THEY FIND AN AGREEMENT BEFORE).

THIS MEANS THAT 1) IF YOU ARRIVE AT THE AIRPORT / STATION ON THE 11TH, YOU WILL NOT FIND ONE, AND 2) IT IS MORE THAN POSSIBLE THAT THE STRIKE WILL CAUSE BIG TRAFFIC JAMS.

THERE ARE ONLY 3 SAFE WAYS TO GO TO THE STADIUM: TRAM, METRO (STATION LOTTO, THEN WALK) OR WALK

Thanks Liddas, that's useful information!

Anyone know if there are trams or buses that can take you from the Milan Central railway station to San Siro?

I was in Milan/Malpensa two weeks ago, and I go there other times too. Malpensa is placed quite far out of the city. May be 50 km. It is a new airport but they did not build any fast transportation. Trains does not go to Miano Centrale but to another station. Then you have to change. The bus takes 50 minutes according to the signs but in fact it takes 75 minutes or more because it stops for 15 minutes ++ at the domestic airport too. Bus is best but it takes time. Taxi would cost you a fortune (if they don't strike). One time the driver took me all around the city (extra trip he thought I did not know the city) and asked for 100 Euro. No tip from me then...

Linate is much better if you fly there because it is closer to the city. Ryanair is flying to Bergamo and I don't have a clue about that except Bergamo city should be 45 minutes by train from Milano Centrale.

This should answer most of the above

MALPENSA AIRPORT > MILANO

If you arrive in Malpensa the only safe way to reach Milano is by train (forget the bus - taxy is a rip-off).

You will arrive at the Cadorna station (center Milano). THIS IS NOT THE CENTRAL STATION ("Stazione Centrale")

BERGAMO AIRPORT > MILANO

Only solution is the shuttle bus. Could be a very long trip, depending on the traffic.

MILANO > S.SIRO STADIUM (aka Meazza)

From the central station (Stazione Centrale): take the metro (green line to duomo or green line to cadorna) then change line and take the red line to lotto (if you want to go directly to the stadium and you don't mind a 10 m. walk) OR get down at WAGNER, have a vodka with us and go to the stadium by train.

BY TRAM: LINE 16, stadium is the last stop (you can't miss it)

Liddas, you're great, thanks a lot for all the info.

Is there a site presenting the whole routes of the trams? I tried www.atm-mi.it but it only mentions the names of the stops; I was looking more for a map to see exactly where the stops are.

Why wouldn´t it be safe to use the bus? I need to go to Milan Central Station, so this would be the easiest way without changing..

It depends on the time of arrival.

By train it would be 40 m. train, 3 m. walking from the train to the metro and 10 m. metro. At all times of the day.

By bus you have to first reach milano, then cross the city. Easily 2 hours in normal conditions of traffic. 1.30 hrs if there is no traffic (late at night) Who knows if there is a car accident that blocks the autostrada (it happens every day ...)

Traffic sure will be hell, if Italy wins the World Cup (which I hope) and they are still celebrating ;-) !!!
I have just been to Milano on the date originally planned for the show, and I took TRAM no. 16 from the city center (Plaza Duomo), it takes you right to the end station in front of Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro)

Expecting all these people in Milan with the gig, I think it'd be a silly decision to hold the strike on this particular day. It'd cause an absolute jam on the streets.
