When it's all added up, album sales, tours, and the Las Vegas deal, I'm guessing Elton John is right near the top of the heap...

Gene Simmons is probably doin' alright too...

Paul MCartney...

The Glimmers, especially MJ...

Gotta think Bruce Springsteen isn't hurtin', or Bob Dylan either...

Eric Clapton for that matter...

I think two of the richest rock stars are

sir Paul McCartney (The guy who sang "I don't care to much for money, cause money can't buy me love" and "All You Need Is Love"

SIR Mick Jagger (The guy who wrote "I'll kill the king and rail at all his servants, but what can a poor boy do except sing for a rock'n'roll band?" )

I know sir Elton John is up in the top three as well, but don't know his lyrics that well=)

Somewhere on the Internet is the Sunday times richist Brits. From what i remember Macca is at about 800m, Bowie Stewart and Jagger around 120m, Richards, Waters and Gilmour around 80m. The members of queen were around the 60 m mark with Woody. I'll try to find it.

A Dutch news paper (yesterdays post by Limbostone) also said Jagger is good for 120 mil.

It seemed they are very angry because of the article, (it was published the day before yesterday) they cancelled the second concert (rumoured for 2007) yesterday ;-). Got mail from the promotor.

That is a reasonable explanation. Are we in £ or € or $ . Bet Macca is on £ and Jagger on pesos.

It may have been Forbes magazine about 2 years ago. Believe it or not the wealthiest rock star was David Bowie. The usual suspects were in there, Mick, Mcartney, Simmons, etc....

Don't think Elton's up there among the very richest any longer. He's a big spender. £ 12.000 on flowers weekly. And numerous donations to his AIDS-projects. Bless him. Hes got a bigger, warmer heart than a talent for finances.

Bowie was up there because of his internet investments etc

The Sunday Times annual rich list was published a few weeks ago and McCartney was the wealthiest rock star in the UK (which probably means the world too, as I dont think there would be any stars from other countries who have earned as much over the years as the top UK born stars)

When you include music executives and entrepreneurs however, the richest people in showbusiness were Cameron Mackintosh, Robert Stigwood, Andrew Lloyd Webber, simon Fuller and Clive Calder (former head of Zomba Music)

Jagger is the 290th richest person in the UK. The Queen is 192nd, so shes only £95 million ahead of him!

The collective worth of the Stones is estimated at £540 million, which is pretty close to $1 billion ($987,207,000 to be precise at todays exchange rates) or 785,382,000 Euro

Interesting to read. Apparently, The Stones are just slightly over U2 : 540 £ vs
469 £. Coldplay earned more than The Stones in 2005 : 60 £ vs 50 £. Mick had alone the same revenue in 2005 as the 3 others combined : 25 £.

Aren t they are rather wealthy? Get real, their in it for the money, the fame, and the chicks. Whatever order you want, those are the reasons. It just depends who is great and who isn t.

I think Ringo's done rather well for himself considering he didn't write any of the Beatles songs (that I'm aware of) and his solo career isn't huge. I'm sure the majority of his wealth has come in the past 10 years or so with the release of the BBC discs as well as the Beatles 1's that came out a couple years ago.
