Albums you liked but didn't went back to
Posted by: Erik_Snow ()

It's wierd, there are some albums which I liked when I bought them, and listened to it, many times...but after a month or so, I just didn't put them on again....years of loneliness in the shelves. So, I'm not talking about bad albums, or bootlegs......just good albums that the brain couldn't make up it's own opinion about.

For me:
David Bowie : Reality
Rolling Stones : No Security
Ron Wood : Slide On This
Roxy Music : Country Life (but I do love the cover)

Someone got something to add, apart from writing "lame threads, and boring posters" ?

I could add that one to my list too, Hurriganes, together with Band Of Gypsys.

Yeah that's true, they should have more guts with their new material!
Bruce have guts, very much guts, yet I go back to his old albums when want to listen to him. I saw him in Asbury Park in NJ 2002, and I really loved the album the rest of the summer....what a small, great concert! Thenm the album faded away for me, and I don't really know why. Perhaps it's because....no, I don't know. My favourites from that one is The Rising and Counting On A Miracle.

Perhaps it's like; if you're having a summer vacation, and you're sitting on the balcony, relaxing, reading magazines....you might be comfartable. But you won't remember it, like the summer you did all kinds of crazy stuff, and got into trouble and joy.
In 1978, RS didn't have a BBQ at the cabin....they partied outside, burned up the cabin, and smoked up the remains in joints.

btw: lots of great duets in youtube: Bruce with Sam Moore, Wilson Pickett, Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, of course Bono&Sting, Axl Rose, The Clash...

...he's done these probably even more than The Stones?

Yes, he has. But, lots of boring artists do duets all the time.
What proves that he has guts is....for instance his new tour, he do 1 or 2 "old" Springsteen songs, the rest is from his new album.
And everything is performed in a new style.
Dylan is a prime example of guts. I've heard so many different band he has had to back him up, and new arrangements, that I've thought "this is THE definate Dylan"....but all of them are definate, even though they are very different.
And after I think I've heard all of him, he lightstruck me (and the audience) on "another gig" on the never-ending-tour. "This is a sum-up of everything I've ever imagined about music, in a NEW way"...you think each time, when he has a good day.

That's true and in my list above there were at least Bono and Sting from that category. (Also found Bon Jovi, but let it out at first...)
But one addition to that list: Chuck Berry - he's not boring for sure.

Yeah. Their fans don't complain about setlists... and how I wish the mentioned Jimi'd be still alive.

London Calling, I still think it has some good indivudiual songs that I still listen to, but I think that ablum has too many songs on it that dont need to be there. Unlike Exile, which is long but I still listen to the whole thing.

The old brain is making an opinion if you know it or not. Have a party and that usually does it. SOMEONE will pick those albums.

Undercover, DW,BTB,VL. I picked up only 10 songs from these albums onto a CD.
I jump from Tatoo You directly to SW and land on ABB.

Me too....I love those long raps he makes in the middle of songs seemingly forgetting what song he's doing, where he is and why.....the ultimate proof: drugs are good for music ("I wouldn't recommend drugs, booze and violence to anyone - but it's alwyas worked for me")

Further proof: Anything Lou's done since New York + anything Slowhand has done in the last 20 years.....

Just kidding of course - don't try this at home! ;-)

I have so many albums that I am sure there are several that suffer this fate. But I try, really. "Bigger Bang" did not hold my interest for very long I hate to say.
One goes through periods where a certain artist is featured. Nick Cave I am not listening to much lately, but used to all the time. same goes for James Brown, Flaming Lips. Those I would say are the main artists that I consider major to me, but have not been playing a lot lately. Tom waits has also slowed down.
A lot as of late is Ryan Adams, Miles Davis, lucinda Williams, Dylan, Doves, Primal Scream, Twilight Singers.

Probably something like Procul Harum, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Its a Beautiful Day (yes there was a band named that)... a couple listens, they're nice, but don't go back to them

White Stripes - Elephant. I regret I have bought it

Hey Bayou....I used to have "It's A Beautiful Day." Nice album....after losing it in my sister's divorce (she was borrowing it) I found out it was worth a lot of money. I think it had David LeFlamme (or something like that) from King Crimson.... and my favorite songs were "White Bird" and "Girl With No Eyes."

"Low Budget" - Kinks
"Live Bullet" - Seger, Bob not Pete
"Kaya" - Bob Marley

For me its Jewels debut album, Pieces of you. Thought it was boring at first. Liked the follow up albums even when people said she sold out, the social commentary was great! Now i prefer the debut to the follow ups. Funny old world.
