Man, I can hardly wait to hear this new album.

I'm curious, who plans to see Bob in Europe and where?

Gazza (in Ireland)?

Erik?

Thanks.

would like to see His Bobness play the new material, but he's only
announced 2 'provincial' UK dates, so far for 2006.
Bournmouth and Cardiff.

Lukester, I can't make it. I have to work untill August 12th, 6-days-a-week.
Besides I've spent my money on Rolling Stones...and I'd have to travel to UK or Denmark to get a Dylan-show, which means hotel - flights - etc.
It's a shame.

Yeah, Erik, I was wondering if you would be able to see Dylan since he wasn't coming to in Norway. That's a shame.

Adrian-L:
So will you see his Bobness in Cardiff and/or Bournemouth? ...and you know he will be in Ireland for two shows, don't you? what do you mean by "provincial UK?"

I found this...

We just got a sneak preview of his upcoming album, Modern Times, due out on August 29th. Times, which Dylan produced himself, mixes elements of 2001’s Love and Theft – blues variations (think “Cry A While”) and whimsical ballads (think “Floater”) – with the darker, swampier vibe of the Daniel Lanois-produced classics Time Out of Mind and Oh Mercy. Only Dylan’s current touring band plays on the new one: ringing in our ears was the bone-chilling vamp “Ain’t Talkin’”, which may be Dylan’s most powerful album-closing epic ever. Other song titles include “Thunder On the Mountain,” “Spirit on the Water,” “Workingman’s Blues,” “When the Deal Goes Down” and “Neddy Moore.” Before the release of Modern Times, Dylan will be doing another summer tour of minor league ballparks, with Merle Haggard opening.

Can't wait for this one!

Ross

i'll hold out till His Bobness hits my hometown of London...i'm a fan but not enough to travel out of town,to see him.
By 'provincial', i was being a little bit cheeky, and being derogatory, to all my UK friends, who live outside of London.

Thanks for explaining "provincial," Adrian-L, I was wondering if you were being "cheeky." Well, anyway, I hope you get to see him. Aren't you also the kind soul he explained to me what "trench foot" is?

a shame we won't likely be hearing any of the new tunes on the tour before the album comes out....but Bob almost never previews unreleased material live - the only exceptions I can think of would be Street Legal (a few songs were done on the road even before they were recorded) and Desire - much of which was played on the RTR first leg before it was released....

He also did Do Right To Me Baby, in December 1978, once.
And several songs from Saved in 1979.
And Blonde On Blonde songs in 1966.

sadly not this year (first time I'll have missed him since 1999). Too many Stones trips already booked for the summer, so I decided that Bruce would be my only other 'away' trip this year for a concert as I have too many other commitments as it is

He's playing two shows in the Irish Republic, but theyre a bugger to get to..would have been easier to see him overseas. Still, I got 4 shows in the space of a week in November last year (London/Dublin) so I'm giving it a miss. Had the shows been a couple of months later and after the album had come out, I probably would have made a point of seeing him somewhere however.

good catches - it's early in the a.m. here, though, buddy, so gimme a break. suffice to say that he's been true to form on not unearthing new material on the stage for the last quarter-century....

Gazza, I just assumed that those two shows in Ireland were in your back yard. Let's hope the "never ending tour" comes your way again someday soon.

Erik, I saw Bob in 1978, remember I was at the Charlotte show. Was that the show in December in which Bob previewed Do Right To Me Baby? I can't remember what month that was but it could have been earlier.

and to everyone else, have the Stones previewed songs in concert before they were released on an album (or a single)?

No, not Charlotte, but he did 2 never-released songs at that one, and they were VERY good.

Half of the Let It Bleed album in 69, the album was released on Nov. 27th, while the tour started on Nov. 7th.
+ Worried About You in 1977
+ Cheery Oh Baby in New York 1975

Yes, and Loving Cup and Brown Sugar way back in 69!
BSugar, Bitch, Dead Flowers in 1970.
Out Of Control at the Toronto club-gig in 1997, before Bridges To Babylon.

Sorry....I can't resist Stones-quizes!

Thanks Erik, somehow I knew you would know. I suspected the Stones answers would have been songs from some of 1970's or late 1960's.

Yes that's because of the songs being finished before they could release it on their own label.

It was actually very cool of Stones, to do 6 songs of the regular setlist (or 5, if you don't count Gimme Shelter), that the audience hadn't heard before.
Just as cool as the Some Girls tour, with 50% new songs.

Re: OT: Dylan's album has a title

yep...that was cool, and they were confident that their fans would like the songs.

Senor Snow, I must correct you a bit since I'm in a sh*t mood (Karl Rove got off, Lukester will know what I mean).

#1 The 1969 Tour Officially began at the LA Forum on the 8th of November, 1969 (2 shows - early/late). I would know, I went to it. My ticket cost $5.50. They did do a surprise/warm up show at a University in Colorado on the 6th or 7th of November - not considered "Official".

#2 They didn't play half of LET IT BLEED before it's release. There's 9 songs - they only regularly did 3 (only 2 Jagger/Richards originals) The standard LIB songs that were played before release in 1969 were "LOVE IN VAIN"(Robert Johnson), "LIVE WITH ME", and "MIDNIGHT RAAMBLER". "GIMME SHELTER" was only played a few times and "YOU GOT TO MOVE" was going to be on STICKY FINGERS. Nothing else was played off of LIB in 1969. YCAGWYW made it's live (concert/tour version) in 1972, LIB was a standard in 1981, MONKEY MAN was debuted in 1994 as a regular in the set list. YOU GOT THE SILVER was debuted on the NO SECURITY tour in 1999. COUNTRY HONK - only a few lines at KNEBWORTH in 76? Sorry Snowman, had to do it...blame Mr.Rove.......

I know you went to Inglewood Forum. Really amazing!
No-matter if it's an official show, it still counts as a concert, for instance 100 Club London 1982 is a concert, and the live debut for Chantilly Lace was Edinburgh May 28th, not Rotterdam June 2nd. 1982

That's 4 songs, Gimme Shelter was played about 5 times in 1969. Yet it IS PLAYED BEFORE IT'S RELEASE.
To say half of Let It Bleed, is to make it easier in writing...I know exactly which songs I mean, and hopefully the guy reading does.
This is almost like your critisism about me mentioning "You're A Big Girl Now" as a song about people changing...because as you put it "didn't mean that EVERYBODY was changing". Holy baloney! I don't get the point.

Absolutely, Dylan would know and pay hommage that way to Chaplin.
