Rare Stone beer
Posted by: michrud ()

I just got back from a nice little trip to Horsens. No Stones but nice weather and good old Danish "hygge". In a supermarket downtown Horsens I found a beer called Stone Ale. There's only 70.000 of them, each with it's own serial number. They were rather expensive, so I only bought four. Tasted one and it's pretty good. What's the story behind this beer? Anyone any ideas??

Beer is beer. They put a label on it and doubled the price. Then the Stones got delayed so they had to get rid of the beer still, because beer is fresh. But they will make more beer for the show in September be sure!

What did they charge for it ??.

The wine was $100 a bottle if I remember correctly, surely the beer was not that crazy in price.

No no BV. Beer is not beer. This is a very special made beer. I bought 4 already. They taste like crap I tell ya. 70.000 beers has been put in stores and pubs and they have 10.000 litres more ready for September.

Beer is beer? Uh, no, I'd disagree. Wouldn't mind a few tongue label brews for the fridge at parties, though-anybody know a cost?

My opinion is already out there on the Bitters- Victoria Bitter that is... Damn shame I can't pick that stuff up Stateside-oops I think I'm off-topic here!

In Belgium you could get arrested for saying something like that. I wouldn't go to the postponed show in Brussels next year if I were you.

I think it is quite funny how we tear apart the topics theme to stay "in the topic", and not "OT".

I call that diplomacy. "Beer" is OT, but "Stones beer" opportunely open the path to talk about beer.

Cheers.

There was a sign on a pub I went to, with a sign with bad handwriting, behind the bar-desk.
It read "Beer are wine" "Coffee are tea".

I'm German, and I can tell you: it's not true to say 'beer is beer'!

The price was 20 kroner. That's roughly 3 dollars.

You probably wouldn't think so if you knew that other beers in Denmark can be priced as low as 33 cents... And they taste better.

I am a beer drinker. Don't misunderstand me. When I say beer is beer I mean it is fresh and in 3 months you can't drink it. It's not like Chablis. So they have a beer which is for sure standard or probably crap and they put a Stones label on it to make money and then they have a bunch of it and no show so they have to get rid of it fast. But with so many Stones collectors and 28-30 degrees C in Scandinavia these days it's no problem. Drink it all. Or just buy it for your shelf. I stick to my Hansa. But I don't keep it. I drink it. And in Horsens I hope they have Tuborg. I hate Carlsberg, even if it is probably the same crap from an intercontinental brewery owned by Leuven Interbrew or Heineken. Who knows. Beers are all mafia these days. Same owners all over. Same beer different labels. Unless you buy Hansa or Macks or some German local beers. Don't know about Perroni and those other Italians but I will soon find out. And Augustiner. And Gösser. That's my early start path.

It appears that Hansa is the only licensed beer from Norway sold in the U.S. but does this mean it has the same potency? I wouldn't mind trying it out.
I hate Carlsberg as well. I have friends who love it but I can't drink a beer that I can smell ten feet from the table!

But this can be a valuable trait when you've drunk yourself blind but can still find your beer. Right, Gazza? Isn't this one of the reasons you like the stuff?

I doubt that it's the same, unless it costs a fortune.

hey bv, do you like canadian or irish brew?

Re: Rare Stone beer

Ireland: Guinnes Stout.
But it takes so long to fill the glass I know I have to wait.
Still worth the wait actually.

Canada: Labatte Blue, Molson Canadian.
Just regular mass produced beer I know.
But they are great still.

I always drink the local beer.
Don't see the point of drinking Heineken in Norway,
Becks in UK or Carlsberg in Hong Kong.

There is no point in drinking Heineken anywhere unless you have no choice

Heineken is ok on Leidseplein actually. But my Dutch favorites are Grolch and Oranjeboom.

BV, as you spend a lot of time in the U.S. when the Stones are on tour, what US beers do you like? Personally I find most American beers too watery.

I think I only had Hansa one time. My neighbour was an exchange student in Bergen for a few months in the early 80s and brought back a bottle for my to try. I can't really recall how it tasted. I should try it again sometime.

Well, I'm not so sure Belgians ( and myself ) will agree that all beer needs to be drunk "fresh". IF you ever get the chance you should visit the "Kulminator" pub in Antwerp. This is what is said on one web-site :

"The beer selection is unbelievable. Just the new beers would make it an outstanding beer pub. What tips it over into the sublime is the unrivalled choice of old beers. Every vintage of Chimay Blue stretching back 10 years or more. Eldridge Pope Hardy Ale and Gales Prize Old Ale at drinking age (10 years old). Forgotten beers from long-closed breweries, beers never offically sold (I've had Westvleteren Green, the beer for the monastery's internal use, here once), anything you could dream about and more. It would take several weeks to exhaust the possibilities".

So Bjørnulf, you may never have "several weeks", but a few hours may be worth spending there. And please drink it slowly, taste it and enjoy it. Not the Norwegian way, which reminds me of people being in the desert for too many hours without water.... smiling smiley

But I do agree with your comments regarding beers with a Stones label...
